Well that's certainly one side of the story. I was at this powwow. Bill Mendoza is well respected in the Washington DC Native community for his advocacy of Indian Education. As he attempted to educate, he was assaulted and hot coffee was thrown in his face which was denied by the student. If you look at the original article in the Durango newspaper, people who who the student describe him as a "hot head."

This article also states that the Washington Post survey finds that 9 out of 10 Natives are not offended by the Redskins name. Hmmmm. Obviously they didn't poll any Washington DC Natives who live on the front lines of the mascot issue....
