I have two comments.

1. Most tribes used gourds and rattles as intruments to accompany ceremonies. Some tribes even had ceremonies that included dancing with a gourd in hand. Technically, they had "gourd dancing" as a part of their history.

2. Gourd dancing in the southwest definitely rivals gourd dancing in Oklahoma - when you look at "the ratio of dancers in numbers."
