Every so many years, the Menominee Nation is proud to supply the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament with the finest wood for the basketball court that the “Final Four” teams play on.

In 2012, CBS Sports Network produced a special documentary called “Court of Champions” which follows the path of the NCAA basketball court being made: starting with the forests on the Menominee Reservation to it being installed in New Orleans for the Final Four Championships that year.

Saving Carlisle Farmhouse & Surveying Descendants

The reason I posted my previous blog entry about Carlisle descendants is because I haven’t seen any other posts here on powwows.com about saving the farmhouse.

Thanks to Dr. Louellyn White (Mohawk), she successfully led a coalition to save the Carlisle Indian Industrial School from being destroyed by the US Army when they declared it had no historical significance.

The plan is to turn it into an Indian Heritage Center. She has been surveying Carlisle descendants...

My grandpa was taken to Carlisle in 1897 when he was only 12.

After a few years, he ran away before they succeeded in "killing the Indian" in him. He was fortunate to make his way back to our rez (over a 1000 miles) walking & sometimes hitching a ride from kind strangers.
