It was HOT!. NC was rocking. Fun time to be sure.

Sheesh, how can you complain when a dance is over by 9pm. Try coming to Canada where sometimes we don't finish till 7 am Monday morning!!!

Our family had a good time.

What I heard numerous times was "the committee wants to get their monies worth" by keeping NC busy. It was all good though, however, people had to get home and work or go to school the next day.

Weatherwise: More record-heat is on the way. Highs in the Valley should reach 93 degrees again today. That would tie the record high set back in 1934. Look for more unseasonably hot temps this week before a cool-down this weekend.

Veon.......... you missed out then.....LOL. For an old man he shhhhhhhhure can rub down. ayeeeee. I didn't have time to scramble since I was locked in between elders and the drum. At first was like ow ow ow ow ow......but after it was like ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. hahaha.

And, yeah, have to complain bout the 9pm discharge.....had a 6 hour drive after that to get the lil one back to school the next day, even tho' didn't make it :(. Plus I was the only the one driving, had no 2nd driver. And up in Canada is well up in Canada, each powwow is different. Yes, I grew up in the northern powwow circuit, including Canada, so I know how it goes, but there its like 2nd nature to know when the powwow is going to end, you prepare for it. However, the committee planned a certain time to end the powwow, so we planned our travel around that. Why do you think there are many accidents and deadly accidents because peeps trying to get back to work/school, etc after a late night. There is a whole thread and discussion about this in the archives. Anyways,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Since the beginning of October, this was the third weekend I've had the pleasure of working with Taite as the MC. He has a way of making it all worthwhile by explaining protocol and proper etiquette while in and around the dance area. He will definitely make a outstanding MC in the years to come!

Tate's pretty good. At the very least he's not boring.

I get the feeling that the people who don't know him or of him are like "Who the heck is this guy and who is he to correct and say this and that about the dance and singing?"

One other thing about the 9pm ending, I know some people who live across McDowell road from the baseball field and they could still hear the music and had to deal with the increased traffic, car noises, people, drums, singing, etc and they have 2 small children they were trying to put to bed...
SO, there's nothing convenient about a pow wow that gets done that late except to the committee.

Tate's definitely not boring, he may go just a little overboard on the who's correct and who isn't correct thing, but 85% of the time he's right on about the pow wow world. AND I can understand what he's saying...some people who MC (who shall remain nameless) can't pronounce or enunciate (sp?) worth a darn.

On behalf of the RME powwow commitee:

We've been running this powwow the same way for the past 21 years; and we're gonna do it again in 2008.
So, PLEASE plan your trips accordingly, so as to avoid further drama.

Why are you quoting me? I'm not the one who had to drive 6 hours to get home or live in the community and had to put up with the noise and traffic, I live 5 miles away from the ballfield so i was lucky enough to be able to leave when I felt like it and come back when I felt like it.
My point about the late ending was that it's not convenient for the singers and dancers and well, the pow wow IS for the singers and dancers-not for the committee, so why not just end it earlier? I didn't think there was anything "dramatic" about that.

If you read some of the other threads, you also come across other events that end late. I made a commitment months ago to help out at a powwow 5 hours away, but had to cancel it due to an illness this last weekend. Another powwow about 4.5 hours away called and asked if I was available, but I declined them as well.

It turned out that both of these powwows both went beyond 8 PM and one ended at 10 PM on a Sunday night. If I had gone to either one of them, it meant that I would've gotten home by 2 or 3 AM.

For future commitments, I will have to plan accordingly by adding another nights lodging and/or an additional fee to offset my time and late travel requirements.

THe good points about this event are the grass arena, mild cool evenings, no set curfew for the evening sessions, 24-hour security, and cash payouts on the spot. There are some events where I have to wait a month or more before getting compensation.

We had an awesome time at this pow-wow. I cannot believe the complaints about how it ended soooo late. 9:00 PM, I believe which makes us laugh... out loud! Man you people should come to some of the Northern pow-wows where they end real early, like say 4:00 or 5:00....AM that is! Any how, a word to the committe, you guys did a heck of a job putting on a real good pow-wow. Remember, we are pow-wow people and as such it would be an anomally for all to be pleased with something as a whole. Bill, give me a call at my residence after 4:00 PM.
