Host Drums

Host drums Big Bear and the Boyz were freakin great. Tim Eashappie had everyone out by 12:30 and was done with contests by 10 on Sunday. There were double adult categories with contemp and old style in each, two songs for each category and some divided into two groups, he jammed a lot of dancing into a short period of time and even had time for intertribals and a special performance by the Maori dancers. Jason Goodstriker did a great job, and it was fun to hear Gordon Tootoosis on the mike again. Only the drum contest seemed a little wac. Condolences to Vince Beyl & family, he was missed at the powwow. Hopefully he'll be able to make it next year. Dorothy Myo put together a great event.

Thumbs up Tabulations

Oh, and you got to mention the tabulators of all those categories (Seekrane). Tabs were done when the contests were done. They could tell the ties by the time the next category was dancing. They now have two scanners so two rows can enter side by side on the grand entry. Its the best of possible systems.

Poundmaker and Horse Hill are some pretty exciting drum groups. They can jam some good tunes. Anybody know if they are going to Winnipeg? Was Seekaskootch ther? They can jam also.

What the heck is old style?? or Contemparary?? Who were the judges?? What the heck were they looking for?? Old style?? How far back did they go?? We started using 4 push-ups in 1972. Did any of the judges remember that and were able to go back that far?? If they did then they would have realized that no two dancers danced alike back in the day. The well known fancy dancers came from the Midwest. Murphy,Gordon,Chico,Crazy horse,Tyrone,Acorn, Nate,Jr.White,Ernie and BT, just to name afew. Not a single one of these dancers danced alike. They were known for their footwork. At FSIN, all the old style winners were old and slow. The contemparary winners were more old style with their footwork and their speed. We need to continue to divide this category by age i.e. 18 to 29 and 30 and over. Same issues for shawl dancers. Not hating , just being real. If you know these individuals I mentioned, then you know exactly what I mean.

I miss this classic Northern Style competition! Awesome. Worldwide power-rankings here man! Seriously!

I think any and all powwows should certainly split up the Men's Grass competition like FSIN does.

Mens Grass Original

5. Clifton Goodwill
4. Nathan Mitsuing
3. Ivan Lonechild
2. Dennis Omesoo
1. Adam Norwall

Mens Grass Contemporary

5. A.J. Redman
4. Terrance Goodwill
3. Julias Not Afraid
2. Ron McNabb
1. Rusty Gillette

Rockin'!!

So yeah, split up the old style grassers from the contemps, as well as splitting the Jr's 18-30, 31-55 for Sr. and onto golden age. Yeah, that's the ticket. Powwow committee's take notice! lol
