I agree with you skybird.. I actually overheard a dancer mentioning that they "DIDN'T ID me" and he ended up placing in his respective catergory, he's only 19.

I know for the mens judging, from what I SAW..there was 5 judges, 3 women and 2 men .. only 1 was a dancer, that my husband noticed. Pretty interesting.

I don't believe anyone was complaining about anything! If you want to know who won, show up!!! LOL.

I know that Alice gover won the women's part of the switch dance-1st place anyway. Quanah H. got 1st on the men's side. Linda tsonetokoy got 1st in Women's Golden age Southern and Georgia Noble got 2nd, Sharon Harrison got 3rd.

Like I said, it was good to park right up front.

But I bet one would complain if they can't bring in their own water or food for the singers because that was happening at the entrance.

Anyways, on and forward to this weekend:

We have Page UNITY and Wildcat Society to choose from. Unless you just want to stay home and wait for the results, eh?

Why?

Ok guys (you know who you are), No offense intended, but this is POWWOWS.com and you already posted the same pics and comments in the Arizona pow wows thread, so could we possibly PLEASE leave the Ft. McDowell Casino Pow Wow Thread to things RELATED to that pow wow????????????

I'm sorry that I don't share your love of motorcycles so it's a bit disappointing to log on to check new posts and its pics that are totally unrelated to the subject and comments that were already posted on another thread. How would you like it if I posted pics of my new shoes or my new purse??? THANK YOU in advance for understanding. Maybe you could start a new thread and call it: Other Hobbies? Then we could all post the other things we like to do, like movie reviews, video games, cars, motorcycles, etc.
************************************************** *******

I didn't understand why people couldn't bring in their own refreshments, considering there was only one food booth AND the casino was right next door which had a variety of food choices that a person could get faster and still carry around with them. I really don't want to think it was because they wanted all the money from the food sales so hopefully it was some other reason.

I really liked the cool cardboard fans that they handed out on Friday and Saturday-very sturdy and nice to look at it. Good Idea!

Again, my positive comment about the Ft. McDowell Casino 25th Anniversay powwow held on April 3-5, 2009 at Fort McDowell, Arizona, was that I didn't have to look for a parking spot far from the entrance to the powwow arena. There were plenty of spaces to park my motorcycle right across the street within 50 feet of the entrance. All I had to do was ride up, park, take off my riding gear, lock my fork, walk across the street and there it was. No complaints but lots of good feelings knowing I didn't have to worry about where I parked or how far I had to walk in the warm weather. Now, let me see your shoes and I'll tell you if it matches your handbag. LOL

Those that know, know, eh?

What can one expect from a home outnumbered by females?

i can tell you what year a certain handbag was introduced and what options are available as well as accessories for each option.

And they show well at powwows.

The only thing I didn't like about the powwow was the stop and go traffic on Shea between 101 and the Beeline. Otherwise it was a nice day to ride ... and look at handbags, eh?

How far can you ride on one tank of gas? So, I take it the training wheels are off now?

On the day that I went to the Fort McDowell Casino Powwow (all posts have to be related to the powwow), I filled up at home and when I returned home that night, the low fuel light came on at 132 miles. It has a 4.5 gallon tank so I could go another 50-80 miles, but I was home.

Absolutely the training wheels are off. I also had a passenger.

It seemed to be a nice powwow with the beautiful April weather which was also good for all other sorts of outdoor activities that were happening at the same time.

We were out there Saturday and Sunday. As I mentioned, this is my first time here, but Pow wow on blacktop? This does dovetail into some of the "issues" mentioned by other posters: A lot of parking taken up for the arena. I had to drop my better half off and then park on the far side of the parking lot. At least there were buses running around to the far lots.

To be fair, the pow wows I've gone to back east are more the celebration variety, not contest events. I usually try to get up for a veterans dance, if one is called. That would be me in the sandy red ribbon shirt. It has taken me a few years to get there, owing to (a) my being more a flute player and (b) my degree of Indian blood being somewhat thinner than most (some Cherokee, even less Cree ... a mixture of the peoples of Western Europe, but there is no proof of that).

I too thought the food and drink vendors right at the entrance was an interesting placement. It made for getting in and to the seating somewhat of a challenge. My suggestion would be to put the food and drinks further away from the entrances, and spread them out some ... and try and recruit more drink vendors.

I'm not sure if there is a space big enough to set up the circle, arena, power, etc. that is not a parking lot, tho they could use more space to park cars, especially handicapped spaces. We have a handicap tag, but I went ahead and parked in the "South 40" and a regular spot, as every handicapped space near the pow wow was already taken.

Made some new friends, enjoyed the dancing. In general, a good time had by both of us. Wish there were more hand drumming and flute playing, but that may be just me.

Come out to beautiful Page (Northern AZ along the UT/AZ border) this weekend (4/10-4/11) and I'll let you play your flute live over the PA.

Otherwise checkout Tucson Wildcat in the wind if you prefer to stay in southern AZ.

Then come out to ASU during 4/17-19 - i would be very interested in your point of view.

Finally come out to the University of Phoenix stadium on May 1-3 for the last major powwow event before summer here in the valley.

i like when the mexican chics wear the Carlos Santana heels with the matching bag. availible at Macys and in the parking lot of the Ft Mcdowell Casino.
LOL! My wife always takes her fringed deerskin necessities bag which we added some 3 years ago. When I am comfortable, I have a fox-face bag I carry as well. Then we see someone with a Chanel purse (with the required shiny 6" diameter clasp) and wonder if we aren't a little out of place?

Stuff those bags with cash and spend it like there is no tomorrow - you'll never be out of place anywhere, eh?
