Say what ya want, believe what ya will. Those "champion" dancers need 2 B humbled every now & then. It probably happened a few times b4, but that many. HMMM. I know we all need extra $$$ 4 Christmas. Instead of eating in the buffet, NDN round steak sandwiches & potted meat & crackers 4 every1 4 the long drive home. Don't worry. They'll B back @ the pay window next PW. Got a few folks talkin'. Asides from the obvious. Sounds like it had gud singin' & dancin'.

You might be right! There are a lot of local dancers in ndn communities that don't pw the circuit and become "famous." And a lot of these dancers are good and even awesome dancers. That's cool for them to get in.

But if this pw had so many "famous" ndns not get in.... Just to be sure they did everything correctly....they should go back through their ballots and books to double check. The reason I say that is because this is a 1st year pw, right? And if I were on the committee, I would want to see how it happen. The only other thing that a committee can to do affect outcome is evaluating who they select for AD or Head dance Judge. (The person that is picking the judges for the contest.) IF the "famous" crew was paying attention to the judges, they probably already knew if their chances were good or not.

Sorry folks, but that's reality!

Hmmm...I don't know about that. Yesterday was the first day I heard that people were getting calls from the powwow committee telling them that they actually placed and where...but no mention of if they were going to get paid. One of the AD's was asking for people's phone numbers and telling them that they would get a call if they placed after retabulating, but no one has said anything about paying the actual winners....don't see how they could do that anyway after paying out all that money already.

Got a few txts saying that a dancer that didn't place got a call telling him he actually got 2nd, and that another dancer that didn't place actually tied for 4th with another dancer who was called for 2nd.

It's very strange. the text did say though that as of yesterday they still hadn't finished tabulating jr women's jingle.

I really don't agree with this post, and I wasn't even at this powwow.

If the dancers that were called as winners actually earned their spot over the dancers that usually place, then more power to them. But if dancers that rightfully earned a place didn't get called due to tabulating errors, then that's not right.

I remember reading about the big uproar over Suycuan powwow in CA when they had huge tabulating errors....people wanted to know who actually won and rightfully so. They even followed up and called the powwow committee wanting to know if they won. It's not about the money for everyone, its about what is right and fixing mistakes. Several of the people that got shut out at this powwow are excellent dancers that work hard at staying in shape and work hard on their outfits. They earn whatever spot they get. Some of those "champions" that you think need to be humbled have their education and jobs and families they take care of....I don't see the need for them to be humbled when they don't need powwows to pay their bills or take care of their families. And its not for me, or anyone else to say who needs to be humbled and who doesn't....that takes care of itself in its own time.

I keep hearing from different ones that went to this powwow, ones that didn't place that probably should have, that this powwow felt good...and even when things started looking kind of strange, that it didn't get ugly, or feel really tense. So they don't want to give this powwow a bad rep when they had a good time and enjoyed themselves....but you can't help but wonder if something did go wrong with the tabs....its only natural curiosity at this point. And wanting to satisfy your curiosity isn't being a whiner.

Thank you for your post well said?? So here is my next challenge to the Pow-wow committee! I'm calling you out make it right? There are dancers that are very well educated and have jobs I don't think rude words need to be said! it's just the fact you don't have to pay them! but if there is a dispute fix it. Like the announcer said honor the word! I hope our words do have meaning!

Man, wish I went....

I went to a pw where a VERY well known and HIGHLY respected dancer didn't get picked in a special finals. I think it was just an over sight on the judges. Someone thinking the other was gonna pick him and then, no one did. But you know what made me respect him even more? He walked off with the other guys who didn't get picked. Then after the dancing was finished he went back up and shook hands with the family.

What goes around comes around. And everyone knows you win some and you lose some. BBBBuuuutttt, it sounds like in this case there were some big problems. So if I were on the committee, I would make every effort to figure it out and correct it. That's all I'm saying.

Good Quote MSW...I agree with what your saying and when someone needs to be humbled, it usually happens when it happens... people shouldn't "decide" when others need to be humbled. If you earned to place, then you earned it...

Ha ha, it is so obvious that there was a tabulation error. All the talk about humbling champs is pretty funny though!!

Anyone know the real winners, or are they refusing to admit their mistake???
