This powwow kicked butt, singing wise! The northern drums set the tone from the get go and were putting out their best efforts. Southern Drums did real well, all drums are to be given props as there wasn't one bad drum to dance to.

I would have picked the winners differently, but that is just my preference. Just like the Grass Dance Special, all four of them guys jammed, Wesley Windyboy and Randall Paskemin picked it up a notch and in my eyes I couldn't of picked a winner between them.

Jingle dress special was much the same, I don't know many of them, Kingbird, Youngbird, geez you name them, they were on their "A" game.

This powwow has the potential to be one of the bigger payouts and will only get better. So far reading these threads no one is griping about winners and losers...uh so far. There was some controversy with winners, but hey all in all everyone kicked butt.

Only negative is getting a bigger arena with grass installed. These Morongo people have the $$$ it would be nice to have an indoor place or put up some walls to block out the wind and dust. Weather was horrible until the last day. Otherwise, camping area could be better. Oh and allow for 2 contest songs per group.

It was the first time to hear the "bird singers" man they was rockin as well.

Good concessions stands and pretty reasonable at that.

4th weekend in September, I'm marking this one down for a return in 2006.

6th Place was NATIVE THUNDER from South Dakota not Native Soul. Although if they joined up w/ Mountain Soul I guess they could change their name :)

And yes Eyabay competed but I guess they didn't place. The committee and chairman did ensure that all drums would get something so the drums that didn't place each got $1000.

And it was so nice to meet the great guys from Stoney Creek who came all the way from North Carolina for the pow wow. They were extremely polite and good singers too! Congrats on the 2nd place win. Hope to see you back in the west soon.

I will try to retrieve the winners lists and post them tonite...the laptops are full of pow wow dust still!
Native Thunder got 4th. Not 6th. It was 1 Blackstone - 2 Stoney Creek- 3 TBZ - 4 Native Thunder - 5 Eyahey Nakoda -6 Walking Buffalo.

Good to see Native Thunder out here. Picked up their brand new CD. it was recorded at gathering. Drumhop did it. It's THEEEEE BOMB!!!!

Well this is what I heard, that the Head Southern Drum judge was told that he couldn't "picK" his drum judges, that the host southern drum was gonna do the judging for the weekend, but the Northern Drum Judge got to do his own picking. Now does that seem fair? And also that those southern judges were giving a lot of "0's" (zero's) to some of those drums. And why do Southern Boyz always win 1st when Spud is the Head Drum Judge? Maybe a little bit of nepotism there?
And why did he have to have security escort him around on Sunday? This is just what I "heard". Just wondering?
