NYC Where are the powwows
NYC where are all the powwows at?? i have been here for two years and only know about the one in brooklyn. We need some more powwows in NYC. I think one in central park would be great or Prospect Park.. How about it? Missing California right now lots of powwows there.

Check into the colleges around the NYC area, any Native Student organizations.
What do the Tainos do up that way? |
You know, I know of red hawk art council but they only have a few powwows but nothing really local. I'm just surprised not many powwows especially with the native museum in manhattan.

There are smaller shows in NYC throughout the year, nothing major. To me a powwow in NYC itself would be a nightmare, little to no parking and if you find a place it's really expensive!
The Red Hawk festivals are about it in the immediate region. Bear Mntn was good this year and isn't too far out of the city. Queens County farm in at the end of July. Outside of that you kind of have to head upstate to Akwesasne, Oneida, Salamanca, etc. The big universities in the New England area typically have a big powwow once a year. Like Brown, and Dartmouth. There is also Shinnecock on Long Island and that powwow is massive - supposedly heading in the direction of becoming what Schemitzun used to be in terms of size. |
Yah I knew about those ones. I guess i really need to get a car lol hard to in NYC all those tickets.

The rail system up there isn't too bad. You can always take a combination of the rails and or the buses through New England.
I also forgot the AICH in NYC holds events, like a New Years Sobriety Powwow. Make a face around there and you may be able to snag a ride to certain powwows. |
