We (Preyin' Eagle Singer) will be there and dancing around too.

Is Weldon Saulkey still running the powwow?

ABdrum 12-30-2006 05:48 PM

We (Atsa' Butte) will also be there as well, but, I don't know about the dancing around... We'll leave the dancing to Preyin' Eagle...

I heard some negative stuff about this pow-wow. Is it better now?

skybird5 02-07-2007 04:06 PM

A. I don't think Weldon is running this anymore, The flyer says Georgette johnson or Kevin Juan.

B. Yes, there is a drum contest but I know it's not ALOT of money, I had the payout via email but I lost it, sorry!

C. How could you hear negative things about this pow wow if they haven't even had this pow wow but one or two times since 2000?

swbreez 02-07-2007 04:28 PM

Is this sports complex indoor or outdoor? AZ nights can get pretty cool in the winter...for my kids.

back in '03 or '04...at the end of the powwow, they announced that someone took off with the payout...had all the dancers waiting to get paid... I think that was the last time they had this powwow, until this year.. other then that, it was a pretty good powwow...wonder...if they ever got paid..????

Payout missing??

This powwow hasn't been held for seems like 10 years or more.
They definitely did not have this powwow in 2002-2003, so you must have it confused with another powwow.

skybird5 02-07-2007 09:08 PM

AB is right, they had this pow wow about 2 or 3 years ago and then I think the year before that too. I remember because Dark Horse was the host southern drum and I think it was the same weekend as another pow wow which is why I didn't go.

Also, one year it was just a social pow wow and not contest and I think it was only one day.
Regardless, its something to do and it's free so why not!!

(AB you better show up this time!!)

Well, at least this event got back on it's feet and is happening again.

I know of two back-to-back powwows in 2004 that were jacked to the core. One paid out 1/5th of what it was advertising and the other paid out zero. The coordinators from both events have since vanished.

Naw. Weldon just took a long time getting the payout together. People got paid.

I was the MC at the event too. They didn't have a southern drum, so Whispering Creek (Me and Toby) filled in for them.

We didn't have a PA system at first either. I had to holler a lot for people to know what was going on. Like the Lakota say, as the MC I was the eyapaha ("Hill" caller).

superndngyrl 02-15-2007 06:12 PM

So you guys ready for this pow-wow?
