Plus:
travel in groups
always let someone know where you're going
check your insurance for road side help
AAA can be a lifesaver
if you have to flag someone down for help have the youngest person or oldest female do it (safely)
stash an emergency $20 for gas money
pack a can of fix-a-flat
Dollar Tree sells small containers of antifreeze and oil that are good for packing
pack a gallon of water, for the radiator or for stranded travelers
write down emergency numbers in case your phone dies or you have no cell service
stash an extra set of keys in a magnetic holder

if you have to push-start your vehicle, always park on a slope, or area with plenty of room to push.
