Not that I'm from up north...but having been to plenty of pow wows where I danced...I was often the only straight dancer there. You know as well as I know that the style of dance that evolved from the "men's dance" of the southern plains has been slow to move. It's not something everyone has just freely shared with anyone.

Southern drums are hitting the northern dances more frequently nowadays. Don't be surprised if you begin to see more of these "split" dance categories.

heres the scoops:
we had 10 dancers in the senior mens catagory..
i was looking for a split song, but the MC did 2 northern songs one was a double step..
i didnt dance the sunday session..
im not too sure about salamance powwow next weekend.

Good to hear stoney creek in person for the first time.. good job guys.. and it's been quite a while since I heard white fish jrs.. wow.. was great to hear them too...
I think the powwow was good... was nice to have it inside where the weather didn't affect it at all... only thing I would add a couple of cents about was the sound system set up the way it was.. there was an echo at times and it was tough to start off right if u weren't directly between the two speaker stacks... other then that and having trains come by every hour or so all night long waking us up, I'd say it was a good powwow..

i agree with the sound system. As for the trains.....thats probably why they said to camp @ the firehall which is about ten min drive but it was quiet there.

Cool

This was a pretty nice pow wow! I liked the set up of having it inside the Gil Lay Arena! Good way to beat the heat from the fury of this summer's humidity!
