Southern California Powwow Update

After a short break, powwow season is about to begin again with the Wild Horse 11th Annual Intertribal Powwow. Details are listed below. Thereís also two other powwows that are on the verge of being announced: The Chumash Interpretive Centerís Memorial Day Powwow, and Redbirdís 7th Children Of Many Colors Powwow.

The Chumash Interpretive Center used to have a nice powwow on Memorial Day weekend, but it has not been held for the past several years. They would like to bring it back. There is a contract currently being presented to them to see if the powwow can be done this year. The contract has a February 15 deadline on it for their response; if they respond favorably, Iíll be sure to let everyone know itís a go.

The Redbird powwow is awaiting a favorable response from Moorpark College. Dave Leyba retired from the College in September, and the business department has been restructured. There is no longer a department of Auxiliary Services. We are hoping to host the gathering July 20-22, 2007 on the athletic field, but as of yet have not been able to confirm those dates with Moorpark College.

Thankfully, what I can tell you is that the Wild Horse Powwow is always enjoyable, and everyone is welcome to come out and kick off the new year in a good way.

Stay in touch if you'd like to know what happens with these and other powwows! Corina
