Question Cherokee Research before 1800?

Unity Harris (married: Darby Callahan) was rumored to be half-Cherokee by her full-blooded father Nathan(iel) Harris (married: Eleanor Sullivan) who I can only find a father for (Edward Harris). Birth date is around 1722, death around 1800 in North Carolina.

I just want to know if there is any way to confirm this other than "was reported to be." I'm looking on Ancestry.com, and some reports are heavy on the Cherokee, others you never would have guessed they were anything other than good Brits.

Edit: Darby Callahan was Mary Stott's son, also said to be full Cherokee

When you get into the early 1800's you are relying on documents that difficult to cross check. I pretty much stop at 1817 that was the earliest Roll done on the Cherokees and even that has problems
