Do you know them ? Name of my ancestors from Oglala Lakota (PineRidge)

Hey !

As some of you may know, I'm doing some genealogy researches to try to get to know my familly a bit more.

Does any of you ever heard of the Barnett family? Theodore Barnett (birth 1911) Oglala Lakota in PineRidge ? Other names from the family : Francis E. Barnett, Cynthia B. Barnett.

Also have in the Rosebud Reservation: Edna Barnett, William Barnett, Susan Barnett.

If you've heard about them or know things concerning their/my genealogy, that'd be greatly appreciated!

Thank you so much for reading.

Contact the tribe. They have records of all enrolled members.

just interested......how distant is your lakota ancestory? how many generations? and how did lakota customs manage to survive all the way in france if you werent in touch with your relatives and had no spiritual guidance there?

im pretty sure none of them were holy men (medicine man) because those with the gift of medicine are pretty much bound to their people

1911 is over 100yrs ago......so a safe guess would be that is 5 generations away

do you have any more recent relatives? you stated a grandparent.....find out whether or not they were enrolled....and blood quantum.....and start there

That depends.....or is it those depends !

My Great Grandfather was born 1860 and crossed over in 1942. His daughter/my Grandmother was born in 1899 and left us in 1982....so that's 4 generations.....

Wow, so many discussions here since I posted the first one, I need to log-in more often.

I'm probably going to contact the tribe, thank you "Joe's dad" for the advice.

To milehighsalute : Slow down here! :) I've been in touch with THIS part of my family, they aren't included in the relatives I'm not in touch with anymore (the one I stated in my other post). My grandparents moved to France when they had their second child, around the 60's (1962 I think, but couldn't tell you for sure, I need to ask my mother for date precision).

I just asked this to know if some of you on here knew things about them, share stories, things like that. But I'm not looking to retrace them or anything! I just wanted to know if some people on here knew things about them that I might ignore, anecdotes, etc. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear enough in my first post. (and I'm sorry if I'm not writing in a perfect english, and if it leads to misconceptions.)

And thank you to those who answered!

@milehighsalute, So I missed the part of NahimanaSung being 18; your ballpark estimate makes a lot of sense!
Doh! (as Homer Simpson says!) Ooops....mea culpa...My mistake! Sorry.

@wardancer, such long lives for your relatives...so good to have them here in this life for so long! Your family is fortunate.

@NahimanaSung, Good luck to you on your search. Joe's Dad gave you really good advice.

I don't know about the Lakota & other tribes, but our tribal enrollment department has started an extra business for genealogical research which is done for an extra fee & as time permits.

IMHO, it would be much better & more accurate to go this route with your tribe, if they have this service available, than to pay ancestry.com a dime. Plus you would be supporting NDNs & "shopping local" as they say here in the States.
