Question Does anyone recognize this name?

Hello,
I have a question for you. I have been told I am part Indian, but I don't know what tribe. I've been told Commanche and Blackfoot. Does anyone know where the name Birdsong came from? My great grandpa's name was Thomas William Birdsong. I was told he married an Indian lady in OK. but that's all I know. Will someone from one tribe marry someone from another tribe? I'm sorry for my lack of knowledge. I just turned 50 yrs old. I don't know of any date that would help. If any one knows anything about the Birdsong name, I would be so grate full to know about it. I am proud to be native, but would love to find out anything about my family. Thank you so much for your time. Sherrie

Greetings and welcome to powwows.calm !

Congratulations ! You are a member of a fairly common group. It's the " My family says we have ndn in our background" group. I'm not in any way saying you don't ! Nor am I making fun of you.
The first thing to realize is this , Location. Comanches ARE in Oklahoma and Texas. The Blackfeet are in Montana , Idaho and NORTH into Canada. At least mostly , depending on timeframe. Now with that said take it back 150 years and what are the odds that a Comanche and a Blackfoot got together ? Just askin' ! Now saying it couldn't happen , just saying the odds are not in your favor. Anything is possible !
When looking always start with yourself , then your parents , then their parents. Those will be the easiest records to find. The name "Birdsong" could be any tribe, so it is just a guideline. I wish you good luck in your quest and hopefully someone else here might be able to help along the way !

Somebody is out there somewhere, thinking of you and the impact you made in their life.

I once had a Principal whose last name was Birdsong, however, he was non-native and didn't even look close to being native.

Birdsong Family History Scrapbook

The surname “Birdsong” goes all the way back to the 1600’s. John Birdsong started it. He came from England to America and his family may have come from Germany. This is thought because the name Birdsong is believed to have come from the German Vogelsang.

I don't know if my Principal was a direct relative of the John Birdsong in this write-up, but my Principal's name was John Birdsong (don't know if he is still alive).

Thank you, Honestly I don't know where my great grandpa was born. I really appreciate your response, thank you. I do know he married an Indian woman in OK. But that's all I know.

I don't know how she's "affiliated", but Jhane Myers (professional name) is a member of the Comanche and Blackfeet tribes.

I'm just throwing that out there.

Call her up and ask if that relationship started 150 yrs. ago ! Today , it's easy and I said anything could happen. It was a little tougher 150 years ago.The OP is looking at distant relatives.
