i cant seem to get the right shape for it...i understand how the shape is suppose to be and how long and what not but the construction of it is where i get lost...is it suppose to be one whole piece? or two pieces sewed together?...

Because of the natural slope of the shoulders, a cape looks best when constructed of two pieces (a front and a back) that are then joined at the shoulders. Your opening for easy on and off can be put on one shoulder or in front, however you prefer. Play around with some paper until you get the right slope for the shoulders along with width, length and shape etc. Using a one-piece pattern will make your shoulder lines straight across which looks odd. Hope this solves the problem. Let us know...
