Thumbs up I miss these lids!

I miss thoses Gold Steve Eagle lids. They would take months to tarnish. They were always bright and shiny. All the new ones are crap. They last only a month before they star chipping. Even when you crimp them down they instantly chip. My sister has a few hundred but she's saving them all. Can't hook a sis up?:Cry
I've got roofing tins this past summer in Minot ,N.D. I'll have to try that route. Wish me luck.:dancer:

Theres a guy I buy all my jingles from, the jingles are pretty much the same type of metal used for Eagles.... I have a dress from 3 years ago and they are still pretty shiny. Mind you they are a little heavy but they sound good n stay pretty shiny long, they are shiner then those McPhersons

Unfortunatly I will never use McPhersons again cause I just bought some and they were a little tarnished already when I opened the brand new bag...... I had more faith before!! BUT NO MORE!! NO MORE!!!!:(

I got his number somewhere ........ when I find it Ill post it, or call him and get an email addy or something.

Question rookie question

Hi, everyone! I hope you can help me out with a couple of questions I have. I'm a writer, doing a little research on jingle dresses for a story idea I had. I just wanted to clarify - the cones on your dresses - what are appropriate things to make them out of? I've heard snuff can lids, (though how many of those can a person collect these days?) plain tin, soup can lids, baking powder tin lids. Is there anything that would be inappropriate?

Would you ever lend someone your dress to wear? Or is there so much effort involved in making the dresses that it's not common to do that?

Is there a standard number of jingles, or rows of jingles on the dress?

Any info you can give me would be deeply appreciated! Thanks a million.

Karen

Never heard of using soup can LIDs though....

Still lookin for that number, I know i got it here somewhere

Well, lets see, there are lots of different kinds of snuff lids you can use, you can check out the closed threads for the polls on what the dancers on this website like to use. Some people also use tin roofing materials. Most of your questions can be answered if you go to the closed threads part of the website and take your time checking it all out. There is not really a standard for the number of rows, most dancers will just make sure they have enough rows for the length of their dress. I cannot say I am the know-all and end-all for jingling info, but there are also some beliefs that dresses should have a certain number of rows, and you can find that in the closed threads as well. The standard amount of jingles used to be 365 (or 366, one for each day of the year and plus one for yourself), but like I said before with the rows, it really depends on how much your dress requires depending on length, size, etc. I cant imagine any dancers using soup can lids or baking tin lids, it's mostly the snuff lids as mentioned before.

Now, personally, I dont lend my dresses out usually, unless they are close family friends or family members. But everyone is different as well. I have borrowed a friend's dress before but I think it's all based on your own personal feelings on it.

Just my two cents.

R.

Danielle, those soup can jingles are pretty cool...they have a bunch of ripples in them, I use to trade my copenhagen jingles for those!!! This is where I get jingles the last time I ordered it was about $80 for a 1000 lids with the lip cut off, you have to roll them yourself. He sells already rolled too their okay he rolls them real tight and skinny, I like mine a little more rounder on the bottom (just like me!) so I roll them myself. His name is RJ Fultz he's out east somewhere, he even does COD! 1-908-251-3498 He has all kinds of brands!!! Tell him I gave you his number and maybe he'll send me some free ones!!!!!!!!!

Ginewqua, Should I save all my campell's lids for u?:Chatter J/k. Are they real soup can lids? That's a really good deal. My sister just spent too much for some already rolled cones from John Bead. They are rolled way too tight and now she has to cut the tip off just to get it on the tabs. I can't remember the brand but some they had a different brand with feathers on them and they were already rusty!! Her cones on other dresses weren't even close to being as tarnished and rusted out as those are. I'll have to tell her about those her next dress. Gawd, we don't even have this dress started yet!!! Oh yeah, does RJ have a website?

I know my mother used to use washed and dried soup cans, she also bakes her jingles to harden the plastic on the lids before rolling them, another thing she use to use was commod juice cans, and back before my day and stuff they used to use washed and dried beer cans (back when it was a heavier metal) tin was also used...it all depends on what kind of sound you were looking for, the different cones make a different soothing sound. i like to close my eyes when i wear the different dresses that my mother made me, they each hold a different feeling, the one with the soup cans has a light feeling the one with the commod cans is just right and its really loud and the one with the copenhagens is my fave, its light and really loud, the ones with the modern ones is really heavy and not as loud as the ones mentioned above. but it all depends on what your looking for.

jingle materials

Thanks so much to everybody, for your feedback on what you use and what's 'okay' to use for jingles. It's really interesting and helpful. Everyone is so passionate about the dance!
