just an idea I had for my new dress

Hi everybody! I just wanted to get some other opinions of an idea I came up with for my new dress. Since I was going for more variety with this dress, I was thinking about doing mix and match tops and underskirts, with the main part of the dress being set up like a buckskin dress (straps), or like a jumper style dress. That way, when I wanted to have long sleeves, short sleeves, jingles on top, or plain, I would be able to change the top. I was also thinking that if I did mix and match tops, the tops could be a little long so I could tuck them under a belt & possibly have appliques and jingle toward the bottom.

What do you all think of this idea?

Talking Thanks!

I'm glad that I have atleast two thumbs up for this idea. It's not as complicated as it seems & is a good way to have some variety.
A dress like this would also mean that I wouldn't have to be stuck with long or short sleeves all of the time. I could have an appliqued top, a top including jingles, a plain top with a little bit of applique on the sleeves since I plan to make one of those beaded short vests, and have underskirts to match all the tops. That way, I don't have to own and tote around a ton of dresses to have variety. Now all I have to do is find a jumper style dress pattern that doesn't have a seam running down the center of it. If I can't do that, I'll have to improvise.

I'm open to more comments. Feel free to leave them or any suggestions that might help with my idea.

Thanks to all who have replied so far.

I had a dress similar to what you are doing. It was all black and I made vests and underskirts that were different so it looked totally different. I really liked it.

rather than have the dress with the straps have you considered having a skirt, separate from your shirts/tops??

it'd be much easier, and they dont fall down if u have the zipper and ties in place and secure.

~*~ShanLyn~*~.......Have you ever tried out what you suggested? It sounds like a pretty good idea. Has anyone tried out something like this?

~*~ShanLyn~*~, I just wanted to get a clear idea of what you were suggesting. Was it a one piece dress with jingles on a skirt slide up, or were you thinking about mix and match tops and under skirts with a detatchable skirt with jingles? Would a zipper and ties be enough to hold all of that weight of the jingles? (I wonder if I would have to wear a belt to keep the skirt up.) If I did a separate top and underskirt, I would be able to mix and match things.

What do you all think?
