I have re-edited the master list on the first post of this thread, so that the listing now shows names in alphabetical order by last names. I hope this will be easier to find a name you may be looking for.

Query.
In the early 60's, in Los Angeles, I met a elder man claiming to be Osage, and by the name of Cub Little Bear. He told me and my friends that he straight danced as a boy and young man. He said that he left home and became, of all things, a professional ball room dancer. He told us that he was world traveled entertaining and competing as a ball room dancer. We dressed him up in a straight outfit to participate in one of the L.A. powwows. Although he hadn't danced that way for a long while, he did fairly well and enjoyed himself. My question is, "Does anyone know the identity of this man; ie., who his relations are and what district he may be from?" I found a Harold "Cub" Little Bear on the internet as part of a geneology tree, but no further info.

We don't know whether he was a "great dancer," but it would be nice to add another name to the straight dancer list.

Yes, Cub came back to Pawhuska to live.
I remember him. He was one of my Dad's friends.
That was what everyone around here said, about Cub.
That he was, indeed a ball-room dancer.
Also, that he grew up straight dancing at the Annual "Osage Dances."
Most of his relatives don't take part though.
Cub used to always be around and taking part in cultural activities.
So yeah, add him to the list!

Oliver Stevens

Oliver Stevens was Kickapoo and Sac & Fox. He passed away last January and there will be a memorial dance in honor of him and all of our people that have passed before us. The dance will be on January 16th. At the Imperial Ballroom in Oklahoma City, OK. Located near the major intersection at SW 44th and Sheilds.

I had Oliver on the list as Kickapoo. However, I have edited it to reflect that he was Sauk & Fox also.

If anyone else sees any spelling errors, or tribal designations which need to be corrected, please post them, and I'll edit the Master List accordingly.

As always, if anyone has a name they'd like added to the list, please post your recommendation also.

Milton's name is on the list, between Larry Cozad and Gunther Daily.

Larry Cozad (Kiowa)
Milton Cunningham (Osage)
Gunther Dailey (Osage)

Just saw the thread and figured I'd suggest one more for the list... Sterling "Teddy" BigBear Jr. (Yankton/Ponca) he was the best I ever saw, and I miss him dearly, a great dancer and great singer.
