Question Straight Regalia Components

:Angel2
Has anyone seen a Straight Dancer's "Mirror Board?"
This (according to gathered info) is supposed to be part of "his" regalia until a more experienced dancer gives "him" a Tail Stick.
I need a description of this because I am changing styles for very personal reasons and have never seen a Mirror Board.

My dad makes mirror boards. Just a small mirror on a board, decorated with tackwork. The ones my dad makes have a sawtooth edge cut along the bottom and a handle at top for carrying.

Mirror boards are probably the easiest thing to make of all. Basically just attach a mirror to a piece of wood, decorate with tacks, coins or about anything that strikes you fancy. And of course cut a handle into it. You can get more elaborate with it all if you really want to. Most of the boards I have seen are in the 7" long by 5 - 6" wide. I personally don't carry one, but thats mainly my being to lazy to work on it. The biggest thing to remember when making one as with all the other parts of your regalia they should reflect the dancer, give them your own personal touch and make it yours. And of course as a straight dancer the object is to look better in your regalia than the other guy!!!! :D

Mirror boards

SDAZ,
I went to the Midsummer celebration powwow in Gettysburg and saw some mirrorboards that looked a lot like those two pictures you included, but they weren't as nice. I've seen a lot of mirror boards that have jagged edges on the bottom, have you seen this?

I am so overwhelmed by the responses that my simple question has brought about. The history of something so small, and yet something so beautiful in it's own small way.:D
