A first try with a very small knife. Ok, forgot to make photos in between.
[IMG] ![]() [IMG] ![]() The sheath is not finished. I think I'll attach an thong for wearing as neck knife. Beading is done on German tanned buckskin of about 3 mm thickness. The inner stiff sheath around the blade is made of tanned cowhide. Forgot the photo. The seam needs a beading but I am undecided about color, size and art of edge beading. The beading was done after the buckskin was sewn.

I am working on another sheath. It is not ready yet but I wonna let you take look.
[IMG] ![]() I lost a bit the vertical line. Think I'll do a third feather and the last portion I'll do in light green and horizontal rows.

Very nice. The look is unpretentiously, not overdone.
Plain design is much more valued than a bombastic one. Thinking in German and writing in English, always loss of meaning. sigh.

Hey, @Broken Arrow you do know the Indian lane stitch has pencil lines all over it, LOL.
Avoid getting the pencil lines where you can see them. And if you do need to "erase" a ball of buckskin cleaner or the sharp edge of a can lid do a good job. Just DON'T use pen to make your lines. I use a transparent quilting ruler and draw lines at 3/8" spacing for 11/0's. Then I make almost a grid, drawing lines perpendicular to the lanes at 3"-4" intervals or in places where large design elements have an axis of symmetry. This helps keep me from crowding the design. |

Hello @OLChemist, I thought the Indian lane stitch by magic does not need underlying grids. LOL
I used a pencil grade H to do the outline of the blade within the sheath. Next time I do grids but for 10/0 beads. I can use the large triangle ruler for drawing parallel and rectangular line. 10 mm wold be the spacing. A little bit more than 3/8 inch. Next Project most should be a sheath for a chisel. A much better tool to operate out arrows which by mistake stick in a tree or the disc holder ...

usually I'll draw the first line , lightly with pencil ! LOL After that I just eyeball it ! LOL That's why everybody else's always looks better !
Then again , I don't always use the same amount of beads on each row either ! LMAO

In the six row I started to loose the rectangle but did not notice until two rows further.
The number of columns must decrease as the curve is becoming greater. The red, blue, yellow and white beads are number 10 while the blacks are Number 9. Number 10 blacks are smaller than the other colors in number 10 while Number 9 blacks to my eye are like Number 10 of the blue. |

Completed the shape. In one night I got an idea how to complete which differs by the original thought.
[IMG] ![]() Need lots of more practice. Next atep is to sew the buckskin to the cow leather sheath. Pencil mark I must still erase.

Finished, or almost finished
Today I sewed the buckskin to the inner sheath.
[IMG] ![]() [IMG] ![]() [IMG] ![]() I could attach two or three tin or brass cones to the fringe at the tip of the sheath. May be two tin and one brass cone or vice versa. Shall I?
