Medallion question

Aaniin

How do you prevent your beadwork from bunching up and 'coning' up when making a rosette medallion?

I have that trouble when I pull my work too tight. And I'm really bad about that. Usually if I can get the first inch in the center flat , the rest will be too ! LOL

Easing off on the tension is the most important thing. But using a stiff backing like manilla folder or heavy brown paper helps. When I am doing barrettes or pendants, I use a very thick backing and a small awl to punch holes for my needle.

Before backing with plastic sheet, this was beaded on buckskin glued to manilla folder.

Sometimes easing another bead in there, will help, too.

The Native barrette is really beautiful. This look so perfect that there is not a flaw in it. I like that.

The OP would have to redo it if it get bunched up which mean you have to start over to make it look better. That is my opinion. Nobody is perfect. I hope you can fix it.

Like said before ,don't pull to tight, have a sturdy foundation, for most of my projects I bead on heavy pellon, its cheap and you can by it by the yard. Watch your stitches as you go, take out if needed sooner better then later :) And cull your beads if they are not as uniform as they should be.
