Delila, there are several weights to pellon. You can get it super thin to very thick. I think you selected a weight that is too light for your work. Depending on the fabric store, they usually carry several weights of Pellon.

If you have to make it work, you could sandwich it, but baste around the edges so it all doesn't shift while you're beading.

If you have the ability to get another weight of pellon, it might make things easier!

I agree with docat. If it is the limpy kind it will need to have something with it it wil be a painn to work with when it gets heavy with beads. You could put it in a hoop and bead that way as ive seen many do and swear by but that way has never worked for me. Secureing it to the other piece is a must, for a long time i would tack it with threa in the corners then I went duh and just used my stapler due to when finnishing it gets trimmed away so in my opp its faster to staple .

if you sandwich it then you could (before basting) place a thin piece of cardboard or thick poster board paper in there to keep the pellon standing firm (so to speak) as you work so it's not so floppy.

Dumb question here....but what kind of beading projects do you use pellon for? My beading projects have all been on either wool or brain tan.

I bead all my barrettes, earrings, rings, necklaces on pellon. Then I back it in leather. My strike a lite set was lazy stitched on buckskin but my other gear was all done on pellon.

The piece im holding in my avi was one of several pieces for a southern buckskin. After drawing it on paper and then running it threw a copier making various sizes for the outfit I then stapled the paper to pellon and beaded threw it, as I like say it was like buter lol a nice change from beading onto leather.

Yep, the thin Pellon can be layered multiple times to get the thickness you want. The thin stuff is good for drawing or tracing your designs onto it. Pellon also comes with an iron-on adhesive on one side. I adhere this to a backing of stiff felt (Hobby Lobby has it) and bead on that. I refuse to use any paper or cardboard in my work. Over time it will desintegrate to dust.

Pellon also has a double side adhesive surface type you can buy...I unfortunately ironed a nice medallion to my ironing board cover when I forgot what type of pellon I had.

Oh no! I once did something similar, getting gunk all over my iron! Ever since, I have shopped for Pellon and other interfacings very carefully. I have stood in front of the selections for a good 20 minutes to make sure I am getting what I want. Usually this requires fondling each and every bolt, lol!

My daughter asked me once WHY I have to feel all the bolts of fabric I walk by. I might not be in the market for wool, but I have to feel it if I am walking by it. I didn't even realize I was doing that.

Yeah, going to the fabric store means I don't plan anything major for the rest of the day.

For the life of me, I could NOT separate the cover from the medallion. I tried everything you can think of, and something in the cover and the glue melted to a super tight fit. I ended up cutting the medallion from the ironing board and removing the fuzz from underneath the cover and used it anyway.

Had to get another ironing board cover. There is some chemical or treatment on an ironing board cover that bonds to that pellon glue better than super glue.

WHEW!!!! You saved your beadwork, anyway. You're a smart cookie! I used to have an ironing board cover with some silvery coating on it. It did stick to stuff! I like the one I have much better...it was sold by a company that does quilting supplies. White cotton canvas with lines and inches marked on it. WAY cool. Found it at a yard sale, and I pop it off and launder it when it needs it. I would be sad to see THAT one go.

I bet that your cover is treated with something else that Pellon won't stick to! Since it was made for quilting, that makes sense that they would figure someone was going to make a mess out of the Pellon glue on the traditional surface and surfaced it with something else. My new ironing board cover has the same sort of surface as the old one did...I am going to be more careful.
