raised beadworkers unite!

Seriously though.. are there any others on the board that do this besides myself? Well I just completed a childs' set of beadwork accessories last week and thought I'd share them. This is for one of my cousins... I believe she's 5 now. My camera does not like to photograph purples for some dang reason so the pictures of the collar are the closest to the colors it actually is.

I guess I'm not doing the skirt and leggins because they did'nt send them home with me when I was there this summer... so I'm gonna guess when they recieve them in the mail that I'm going to get an email saying... send me the beads you used ROFLMAO! Some of those beads just have the most beautiful color to them.. the lighter green for example is a lt. Olive green matte with an ab coating... just stunning, and the main purple color in the flower is white lined lavender that is opalized. I love opalized beads. It's kinda like the luster of mother of pearl. Hey thanks for the compliments everyone.. but I still want to know if there are others here that do it also.

Thumbs up That's great work BB

My mom does that kind of beading, she's been working on a purse for a long time - with this style of raised beading ... it's very beautiful work BB

How do you do that type of beading? Do you have to put cloth under it to make it raised?

nope... some use a single line of beads underneath for support but alot just use thick thread with their beads so that it stays up on it's own better. It's almost like doing lazy stitch but lazy stitch to the extreme. Lazy just wants to pucker out a tiny bit, raised beadwork wants to stand on it's own with it's butt up in the air LOL. The hardest part of that was the butterfly wings. the outer rows at the corners... I had to get creative with the curve because the inside curve is smaller than the outside. When raised beadwork is done right.. it kinda resembles thick decorative frosting on a cake.

I've never done one if thats' what you mean... but my cousin's wife does wedding cakes and decorates them with frosting that looks like raised beadwork... man are they gorgeous too!! Wish I had a picture to show of them!

Hmm. wedding dresses, this intriques me. I'm not sure raised beadwork could be done on sheer fabrics..it's normally done on velvet and velveteens. My wedding dress though was my first set of traditional clothes done all in ivory velvet and satin... You know I'm going to have to try it out now.. maybe with a stabilizer behind it , it might work, but it might also make it stiff..... DARN YOU, YOU MADE ME THINK ROFLMAO!

Beautiful!

Hey BB:

I think it looks marvelous!

I kinda don't understand the thick thread thing? Do you mean thick like carpet thread? Do you wax it?

Best!

Wow, that's interesting Inuk.. i've never seen a book that shows how to do raised beadwork before. I did'nt think one existed!

Thick Thread- it fills up the holes in the beads better so that they don't move around, and makes the bead line thicker so it stands up better. By thick I mean if you are using 11's or 10's you want to use a D or F thickness thread. D and B for anything smaller.
