Cool Rip, Rip, Rip

Hello everyone! Have you ever had a time where you weren't happy with the way a project was going, or found a better way of doing things? Thanks to what somebody showed me on New Year's Eve, I decided to pull a project off the back burner that I got stuck on.
Yesterday and tonight I was busy taking beadwork apart. I am bound and determined to get this project completed. It sounds crazy, but I know that my beadwork will look much better.

Been there, done that many, many times... but in the end you know you've done it right and you'll be happier with it. I have found that if I don't take out the mistake, for as long as I have the item I made, I'm going to be saying to myself...ayeee, look at that mistake.. I should have picked it out when I could have...lol

if it is a big mistake i will tear it out and fix it, but if it is a small one i will leave it, because none of our stuff is supposed to be perfect. i had a date book cover i was working on that i put away, years later and many moves and it is gons. not sure where it went, and kinda bummed cause it was a really cool project. always better to put it away instead of gettting frustrated and puttimg that energy into it. speaking of, i think i will head up to the trading post on get some more beads. i love new beads, they always inspire me.

I've picked out a color selection that I thought would work up really well, and gotten into the middle of the project and realized it wasn't working...soooooo.......RIP!! Start over and I'm always pleased with getting it where I want it. But it is kind of sad to have to rip all that work out So I just get with it and get it ripped out and start over or add the color the will make it POP and then I'm a much happier camper!!

I have a whole shoe box full of single earrings that I've either lost the partner or never finished the set... hmmm.... maybe your sister-in-law would like them...lol

(Ever noticed that? You always lose the earring of the set that you don't have enough beads to make a new one or can't get anymore of that colour to finish them...lol)

Single earrings are great for hanging in clear glass balls for Christmas ornaments.

I HATE ripping things out and only will in dire necessity. I have put projects away that are causing me frustration, and then finished them later on.

Someone once told me DONE is better than PERFECT and that is my mantra now.

Thanks, Everybody, for sharing your ripping stories. I was ripping beads from a lazy stitch project in which the loops were way too big. They looked really funny. As I was ripping, I was carefully sorting the colors (the loops were all solid colors).

Have you ever had to go back and match up colors or figure out what certain colors were? (very dark colored beads look very similar when not in very bright light)

That sounds good to me. There's a bead show coming to my area toward the end of the month. I could get into a lot of trouble there....too many good looking beads.......

Are you done yet?

I don't have a mantra. I have a blanket. It's raining. I just woke up...kinda.

Call me when the Bingo game starts. I'm going back to sleep. I heered the caller is on NDN time.

Well...BINGO has started...and I'm NOT done. LOL

As I said, I HATE tearing out, but don't mind breaking a few beads to redo something. Someone taught me the RIGHT way to break a bead...smash it with needle nose pliers - SIDEWAYS - not smashing the 'hole' that could break the thread. If you just smash the edge, you most likely won't cut the thread, and replacing the bead will be easy.

I don't usually rip things out... Only have done that twice that I recall. If a row doesn't seem right to me as I go, I just take the needle off the thread and pull the beads off till I get where I want. That way I dont waste thread.

once in a while I have to redo something. For all the grumbling and gnashing of teeth that goes into it, in the end I am glad I fixed whatever the problem was. The time of enjoying the finished piece will be much longer than the extra time it took to make something right. Thankfully, I have enough experience that really big mistakes don't happen too often.

I mentioned on another thread that I had recently taken up knitting. The knitting term for unraveling worked yarn is Frogging. It is a play on "rip it, rip it"!

Talking the Rippin' Queen is Back :OP

Hello everybody! I just wanted the let you know the Rippin' Queen is back on this thread with some great news!!!!!!!! After rippin' away at a project in which the bead loops were way too big, and finding a better way of doing things.....duh duh tah duh......I am down to having 1/4 of my legging(#1) completed....and my eyes are as beady as ever. My goal is to have this beadwork completed this year.....Period! Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of my work yet.

Note: Old videos and TV can be your bestest friends when you want to have some on in the background and have a cd player boom box that has a motor problem causing an ear piercing hi pitch sound.

Smile Little Beady Eyes/almost there

Hi All!

My little beady eyes are about ready to bug out. I've been doing more and more staring at those little buggers, bound and determined to get this beading completed before the end of the week, so i can move on to #2. I plan to be working on #2 legging next weekend when I'm scheduled to do a beading demo at a local museum.

Does anybody else have a project which they are so close to having complete?
