New Bustle Trends?

Anybody experimented or seen any bustles "out of the ordinary?"

I have seen air brushed bustles with flourescent colors. I have seen lights around the rosette.

I have been given some glow in the dark hackles from my buddy in Florida, and would like to see what they would look like on a new bustle.

Have you seen anything unusual?

What do you predict will be the next new look in bustles?

i have seen paint on the tips on the feathers. i have seen new color combinations here and there. the base outfit is the same, but the accessories are bright and flashy.

The lights were worn by an Oklahoma Fancy Dancer named Mike Pahsetopah. He is also on a video about Oklahoma Fancy Dancing.

Mike periodically comes out with new bustles that are controversial. The lights he had on his bustle were about the size of small Christmas lights and they blinked throughout the powwow.

___

Another thing I have been observing is fancy dancers adding tinsel to the end of their bustles.

I use high intensity ScotchBrite reflectors on my bustles and flagging tips. I want to make a set of bustles that are just plain with horse hair and with very little hackles. A retro look type of thing. Sheyaa, like, Retro is soooo in.

a friend of mine is beading the exrenders on his bustles.it's gonna take him forever. but it will look cool.
I'm gonna put an LED in the middle of my bustle . I'm affraid it will break.and instead of flagging tape i'm putting christmas tree tinsel for flash.

some guy I saw once had shards of mirrors on each feather he also re-enforced the feathers with dowels but the mirrors looked neat .

I have noticed a lack of fancy bustle trailers in my area. no one seems to use them anymore.

Trailers

Mine is dark blue, I guess you could call it navy blue, with red trimmings.

I saw something similar to what you are describing on a dancers roach feathers. Looked pretty slick.

I've also seen some bustles with the stuff they make cheerleaders pom-poms out of on the tips of the feathers.

Your friend must be crazy :) Those bustles are going to be way too heavy to dance in. Encourage him to use yarn, embroidery thread or tape instead. I could maybe see beading a few feathers...like the top 2-3, but all of them would add so much weight it's insane.

I had the reflector tape on a previous set and it looked pretty good. Wait til you get your pictures back! It makes your bustles look like they are glowing.

I'm not a fan of the tinsel though as it never looks neat...always kinda messed up. Same way with the pom pom stuff.

This really isn't bustle related, but I saw this one guy who had his rocker rigged up to some sort of light switch thingy where everytime it would rock it would light up. Looked neat.

Tape

How is tape anyways. I never used tape on my extenders (dowels rods) before. Usually I used crochet thread and some colored floss for designs. Wouldn't the adhesive on tape kinda soften the rod or break it down a llittle? I always wanted to put horse hair at the base of my feathers, about 7-8" of horse hair. So it would be like midway, sort of, of one piece.

well of course he's a friend of mine so of course he's crazy . I told him that no one's gonna see the extenders so what's the use? but he's stuborn so he said it will be cool . then again he also tried to compete in grass dance comptetion with a fancy set just no bustles.
