Arm shawl question

I some questions about the arm shawl which is not full size or functional as an actual shawl:

Can anyone give me the dimensions of one?

Is it sewn into a sleeve or simply folded and placed over the arm? If its folded, how- in half, in thirds or what?

Does fringe only go on the bottom edge?

Is ribbonwork/decoration only put on the section that shows? Is this section the center of the fabric or one corner?

I have sorta an idea of the concept but have never examined one closeup. Thanks for helping me out!

Heheh, just seeing if people are paying attention.....!!

Kiowakat, I was taught to use a full shawl too and I do for myself but I do get requests on occasion to make the slimmed down modern version.

Im sure most of us

Im sure most of us were taute the propper way to make ,fold and carry a shawl I know I was ,but I also know there are more and more shawls being made that are not made to be worn ,I have a few, that were gifts to me that i carry proudly but I do prefer the full shawl, for the simple reason of If im not dressed yet and they have a special and im wanting or needing to go out there I can throw my shawl around my shoulders and head on out or if im for some reason not dressing I have one to wear when I want to ,and ive been known to wear my shawl when im dressed i the cool nite air, you cant do al that in a half shawl, but I am seeing more and more of them being made and im seeing them on little girls because they are easier to manage, my mom always folded and pinned my shawls so all I needed to do was put it over my arm and if I needed to waer it for whatever reason it was easyaly unpinned. How my half shals are made the applique go's corner to corner so no raw edges are showing if that makes any sense? and I have another one that it has a small design centered in the middle, I dont mind them I just keep a full shawl on hand if i should need one.

try this...45" wide, then folded in thirds (so it comes out 15' wide...about the width of someone's forearm)...and 40" long then folded in half (when draped over the arm it comes out 20")...fringe top and bottom, so when it's draped over the arm, all fringe is on the bottoms...tack it together in strategic places along the bottom only (this avoids that awful "sleeve" look! LOL).
