My Cheyenne Bro, Bruce Whiteman, said that they thought they would open it for New Years and let them 49. Did this happen?

True Loves is an OKC institution! *L

I heard last year during Red Earth they had a 49 there and a 49 contest in Bricktown before going to "the field?"

What's the place right next to LeBears???? The one where they play rock and some hip hop?? There used to be alot of natives that went there some weekends. We used to take over the Firehouse on Drown Night in Norman. *L* That was fun....we'd take over the music too.....man I miss that sometimes!!!!!!!!!!! Too muss.

Okay, back to the topic. *L*

Can you believe Native American Times readership voted True Loves second best place to find a snag (behind powwows)? *L YIKES!!!

Only at True Loves did they allow 49 singing "any ole time!"

The place next to LeBares used to be called Southside. I have no idea what it is called now.

Ahhhh Zekes. Yep, thats the spot. Oh and Bill and Dees out on Main in Norman. Thats another place I seem to see alllllllllll the familiar faces on the weekends. And speaking of Norman, there is lots of good stories from that town. Someone should write a book.

I saw someone with an old azz Trueloves shirt on a few weekends ago. He was sporting that and singing all by himself most of the night.....I had to give him cool points 4 sho!!

Man what were the two places in Tulsa...they were down on freakin Peoria....I think one was Shortstop's and there was a ruggit little club across the street and down from there. *L*

I would think the best place to find a snag would be Haskell. ROFL> okay LA's or I guess it's called club 508.....TeePee's you could get a snag....*L* Or are we just focusing on Oklahoma locations?

rob,

I can go either way on the contests or the real 49's!

You and I have really tore it up during Stroud at The Monument, The Derricks, The Water Tower, north of camp and that lonely road a couple of miles east of the rodeo grounds! *L

A generation ago, 49's actually had a function. I remember when only older men who's wisdom, experience and knowledge of songs gave them a place in the center drum. During this time, it was the expectation of southern singers to go practice singing on a lonely road 49 so that they could one day come sing in the light at the center drum. I have asked famous older singers today where they learned to sing and time-and-time again they said, "at 49's."

Well, times have changed. There are fewer 49's today where the emphasis is singing, than there were 10 year's ago.

Aspiring singers today learn to sing at the powwow instead of practicing singing 'in the dark' at the '9. This change is a part of southern singing evolution that existed a generation ago.

"A 49 is not a real 49 without singing 49 songs!"
