Calling all ya Southern Drums!
We're trying to get more Southern drums/dancers up this way (Northeast). It's rare that we get to see/hear this style and it's well liked 'round these parts. So we have 2 upcoming pow wows I thought I'd help push along.......

1st- Thunder Falls Veterans Pow wow
Niagara Falls, NY
July 9th-10th (Specials fri nite)
Combined drum contest
Honorarium for non placing drums
Jr.(18-35) & Sr.(36-49) Adult Categories

2nd- Seneca-Allegheny Pow wow
Salamanca, NY
July 15-17th (Specials fri nite)
SPLIT Northern & Southern Drum Contest
Honorarium for non placing drums
Also Split in Northern/Contemp & Southern/Old Style Dance Contest
Also have camping available at a reduced rate if drums are interested in staying the week in between (Or as most people are doing---> going to Meskwaki PW Tues-Thurs then coming back to Saly LOL) Hope to see ya there

Will there be camp space??

Kayedos 06-27-2005 01:12 PM

Sorry i took so long to reply but yes there is camping available. It's limited on the pw grounds- but our nation does own it's own campgrounds that they have opened up to pow wow people at a very reduced rate. There's Rv parking, tent sites (table & electric hook up) and cabins available. For interested drums---> cabins would be the way to go as you can sleep up to 6 people in them and prob pop a tent or 2 outside of it. Cabins include fridge, stove, cots & firepit for I believe $40 a nite. They are holding this rate only til the end of the week. Take a look under pow wow talk for phone number to there if interested! Also there's camping near our community bldg for free but it's oly for your tents & line for the showers are loooooong. But it's an option :) Hope this helps anyone out.

Sounds good. This is the first year that Salamanca has split the categories. They averaged about 10 drums a year, but this year they have really raised the prize money from $1,200 (haha) up to $4,000 and added more categories to showcase for the area.
So come on ya southern drums.... come try it out up our way!
