Back around 1963-64 while going to Cali, I was allowed to buy a ring just like that from a roadside Native vendor somewhere in Ariz. I couldn't have paid more than $3 as that was all I was allowed to spend. If I remember correctly they had some that were made of copper also. Thanks for posting pic, brought back some good memories. I was 8 or 9 at the time. That's about all I know, hope it helps somewhat.

That one symbol looks like a swastika, which some tribes have used here.

Do you know what country it originated in?

If you are wondering if it came from here - I have seen the swastika motif used on some Navajo jewelery.

Not a swastika, we call them crooked crosses and have seen them in Apache art as well.

Semantics, LOL. Right though. A lot of world cultures had some form of a cross of similar design. Some, however, decide not to use the term "swastika" because of its relation to Nazi's and antisemitism during the WWII era. It's also a Greek word.

Thanks for taking the time to respond ya'll...I'll give you a little more of what I KNOW about it...

I know that it is silver, took it to have it checked by a reputable jeweler in town, and that it is time specific for the information that I have been provided as far as ability to have been made in this manner...I have been told it is hand forged and that the symbols are stamped into the metal. (by the way, interesting tidbit, the jeweler offered me $500 for the ring before I left his shop, I thought that was kind of neat)

Eons ago when she lived my maternal great grandmother (Granny was what she was called) used to travel several times a year to Arizona to visit with family on what we were told was a reservation. My mother remembers these areas and visits as they often traveled as a family out to Arizona and many of the four corners areas and up to Kentucky visiting family when she was young. From what I have been told, when Granny was pregnant with my maternal grandmother (Grandma Bertha) there were three aunts (I do not have their names off the top of my head)..anyway, while Granny was pregnanat and could not travel the aunts went to Arizona to do the visiting and while there they sent a postcard back that said, "We have the ring that we discussed and we are bringing it back for the child."....it is post dated 1920 and in Arizona. My Grandma Bertha was born in 1921.

There is more to it, but I've been trying to search out anything I could find out...thanks for you input...I really appreciate it...

We have that symbol as well, although you don't see it much anymore, it signifies the four directions. It was quite prevalent at one time in many cultures through out the world.

I dont know how accurate this pictures is.

I've seen that symbol and know it precedes anything the Nazis did. I beleive different groups had it turning certain ways to symbolize specific energies (i.e. if it turns clockwise = positive vs. if it turns counter clockwise = negative... just for argument's sake, dont quote me)

Well it does very much look like the Nazi swastika, seeing as it's turned up at and angle, which is not to say that many cultures have not used it at that angle, but just more famous due to Nazi Germany and Hilter.

I'm not sure exactly what the origin of the swastika is as related to individual who made the ring, but I will go so far as to say that it is used more like a ruin or symbolic purpose over party or even a cross. Here's why: The bird on the ring is very familiar to the many local artists who have long ago around these parts would smith, sculpt and paint the Phoenix. that Mythological bird that would die every X amount of years, depending on who's telling the story it could be 500 or 1000 years. This to me is evident in the way that the birds head is turned with its wings spread out.

If this is the case the meaning of the ring and the swastika could be a combination of things or both meaning the same thing.
Both the swastika and the phoenix are representations of Sun, Power and Strength. The phoenix is also known to be representative of clairvoyance, immortality, (which is quite ironic seeing as it dyes every 500 to 100 years) never the less, it's also symbolic of rebirth and regeneration, (it's more well known meaning) even beauty, because out of the ashes of it's violent death, it arises.

There could be a number of things this could mean or be symbolic of. I won't try to tell you what it means but I would believe that the meaning of it is very redundant. Not meaning to be insulting Ms. Trouble, but we have what appears to be a Phoenix, a Swastika, and on your second picture there is a sun with arrows. No clue as to what the arrows are, but that is most definitely a sun and not a flower.

So a sun, a phoenix(the flaming bird or the sun bird) who makes it's nest to die in the city of Heliopolis, (literally sun city in Greek)and the swastika which until the Nazi's used it had been used for some 3000 years and had been representative of life, the sun, power and strength.

There might also be a bit of prophecy in the ring as well. The word swastika is not German but Sanskrit (svastika)and broken down offers this meaning sv or su meaning "Good" asti meaning "to be" and ka as a suffix. Anyway there is my two cents worth in it. I'm pretty sure you are looking at a Phoenix and both bird and swastika representing the same thing.

anyway good luck with your research
