Beading on Mocs

I just made a set of Eastern Woodland Soft Sole Pucker-Toe mocs. I made them out of buckskin, but its really thick skin. I wanna applique a small floral pattern on the top by the toe and on the side cuffs. Any suggestions on how the best way to bead on this would be? This is my first attempt at any type of beading, so I'm a little scared on what I'm getting into. I tried felt for the side cuffs, but my beading rows (I only got 2 of them done, haha) are turning out all crooked, nowhere near straight. Please help!

Thanks for any suggestions!

I can go ahead and tell you the best way to bead on something is to draw the design on there first then bead over it. As for the mocs one way I was showed to bead on leather is you don't actually puch the needle all the way throw the leather you peirce the top of it, it works well for beading rows but I don't know about applique. Good luck to ya.

Thanks. I did draw the pattern on the cuff parts first but didn't know how to go about beading it. Then I did it on the felt, but I don't like how it was turning out on that, so I'll have to try that. I appreciate the help!

I used a really soft deerskin for mine. I did the beadwork/sequinwork actually on the felt first, then sewed the felt onto the mocs afterward.

I tried to post a pic here, but it didn't work. If you go to my profile and look at the my picture album you'll see a picture of the mocs I made for my daughters.

Thanks. It seemed to me like the felt was too pliable and porous. Maybe I just need some practice with beading, since it's my first time even trying to bead. Thanks for all the help and comments!

for my baby girl I plan to bead the side cuffs. I'll post a pic when i'm done.

I'm beading on the side cuffs because that seems pretty traditional for Lenape mocassins. And it seems that applique beading was used in Lenape beading, I haven't seen any Lazy Stitch. It's just a simple pattern with 3 colors (dark blue, dark red, and pink) in somewhat of a checker board pattern.

yup...i agree with this. i bead with 4 beads at a time, then come back up through the middle so there's two beads on either side of the needle and then pass through the last two beads and pull tight.

hey super, how's jibby been? haven't heard from her in years. tell her to drop by this thread so we can catch up. thanks
