Question Cradleboards

Is there anyone who might have hints, tips, patterns, or possibly any makers?

Doing research for construction purposes.

Have found a few patterns but not for old plains style.

Sorry I don't have any patterns, but I might have some pic somewhere on the computer, if you find any would apreciate if you would like to share them with me, as I am thinking of making a northern cheyenne style in the future

One example: Mike Kostelnik, one of this country's leading experts on Cheyenne beadwork had an interesting article on Cheyenne cradles in Whispering Wind, but even he missed one important detail which Jim Lenoch, another great beadworker, pointed to in a letter to the editor: the fact that on Cheyenne cradles the lanes taper (get narrower) towards the bottom of the cradle -- a feature not found on Sioux cradles.

Gotta love the Denver Art Museum's collection. I got myself followed out of the museum last time I was there. Apparently I took a few more pictures than they were comfortable with. ;)

That Whispering Wind Crafts Annual shown above actually has instructions for making the Cheyenne framework cradle. Its the only set of instructions I know about.

Asmajol, were you asking me about cradle pictures? Your PM did not link here, so I am guessing. Let me know.

You really need to have someone show you all about the cradleboards. I found an old series of pics where my mother-in-law is showing my stepdaughter the hows and whys of wrapping her baby in the cradleboard I got for her.

With the Cheyenne style (and other plains tribes), the board is the most important thing...different baby bags can be attached to it.

Traditionally with Shoshones, there was a different type of baby basket made for the new infant, then when they could hold their head up, the typical Great Basin/Plateau cradle board was used.

I've been thinking about how to make a cradleboard that is rated for automobiles. Please no one patent my idea before I do.
