Lightbulb Recipe fundraiser.

Today while going through my recipes I noticed that one recipe was worn, tattered and covered with stains. This is my favorite recipe and the one most used. I thought it would be fun to share recipes on the board. Then I thought if we created a recipe book and had webbie sell them we could raise money as a school scholarship. (Maybe for Haskell since that is near where I live)

So here is my most used recipe.

Sausage Bean Chowder

1 pound pork sausage(med-hot)
2 cans - 16 oz each - kidney beans
1 can - 1lb 13 oz - tomatoes broken up
1 qt water
1 large onion chopped
1 bay leaf
1 1/2 tsp Lowry's season salt
1/2 tsp garlic salt
1/2 tsp thyme
1/8 tsp pepper
1 cup diced potatoes
1/2 green pepper chopped

In skillet, cook sausage until brown. Pour off fat. In a large kettle (I use a crock pot) combine beans, tomatoes, water, onion,bay leaf, seasoned salt, garlic salt and thyme and pepper. Add sausage, simmer 1 hour covered. Add potatoes and green pepper, cook covered 15 - 20 minutes until potatoes are tender. Remove bay leaf.

Now it is your turn. Find the most used recipe card in your file and add the recipe here. Note this may note be your favorite food as you probably have that recipe memorized. :)

My most used dessert card

Lemon Cheesecake Ice Cream

8 oz cream cheese
1/4 tsp vanilla
3 Tbls fresh lemon juice
1 C. half and half
2 egg yolks
2 egg whites
1/2 cup sugar

Puree cream cheese with half and half in a blender. In a small boawl, beat egg yolks with sugar until thick and lemon colored. Add lemon juice and vanilla, then stir well, Add cream cheese puree, then mixd well. In a medium bowl, beat egg whites until stiff and fold into existing mixture. Chill and freeze according your your ice cream churn directions.

OK, webbie, this is my most worn out recipe. So worn out I can't even find it anymore. :p

BisQuick Banana-Nut Bread

2 large very ripe bananas - mashed
2/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup milk
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
3 eggs
2 2/3 cups Bisquick mix
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)


OFFICIAL DIRECTIONS
1. Heat oven to 350F. Grease bottom of 9x5x3-inch loaf pan.
2. Stir bananas, sugar, milk, oil, vanilla and eggs in large bowl. Stir in Bisquick mix and nuts. Pour into pan.
3. Bake 50 to 60 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean; cool 10 minutes. Loosen sides of loaf from pan; remove from pan and place top side up on wire rack. Cool completely, about 2 hours, before slicing. Wrap tightly and store at room temperature up to 4 days, or refrigerate up to 10 day.


OFFICIAL High Altitude directions(3500-6500 ft)
Heat oven to 375F. Decrease sugar to 1/2 cup. Increase milk to 1/3 cup. Omit oil. Bake 55 to 60 minutes. (Never tried this even tho we live at 5500 ft)

COMMODITY MODIFICATIONS
You can use the commod baking mix, but don't expect it to be as good. But if that's all you have, try to use buttermilk in place of the regular milk.
If you only have powdered milk: Add 1 heaping tablespoon powdered milk powder to the bisquick. Then just add 1/4 cup water in with the wet ingredients.
If you only have powdered eggs, please do the same thing. Add 1 cup egg powder to the bisquick (or baking mix) then add 3/4 cup water to the wet stuff.
If you don't have a bowl: Grease the whole pan. Mix wet ingredients in pan first. Then add the bisquick.
If you don't have an oven, add a little more milk and cook like pancakes!

This ones been around our family for awhile with a couple of changes

Million Dollar Pie
1 cup sweetened condensed milk
1 small can crushed pineapple, drained
1/2 cup lemon juice
1 tub Cool whip
1 cup chopped nuts
Mix lemon juice and milk; add Cool Whip, pineapple and nuts. Pour into baked pie crust. ( I usually use a graham cracker pie shell.)
and refrigerate until set. Makes 2 pies.

I'm gonna try this one, but.......

When using the commod modification, can you use an electric mixer or do you have to use a spoon!

Is this something we want to try and revive? I don't know about getting things printed, but I've got lots of recipes that are easy and taste fairly good (ok I haven't killed anyone yet J/K).....
Just wanted to test the waters and see. I know I can always use new recipes.
