Puts homemade bread on table...Made once a year so I won't forget how.

I would like to state that I too am not addicted to sewing and I can put it down.... away...... stop..... any time. It's just that since I have the machine out.... there is always something that needs to be sewed, repaired. Right????? I can spend hours at fabric stores and at certain times come out with nothing bought. Just couldn't make a decision. I have trunks of material, stores going out of business....you just can't stop at one thing. But I don't have a sewing problem.....

I have a sewing problem, a beading problem and just crafts in general. Man do I have fun.

Now that I think of it , instead of learning computers I should have learned to fix sewing machines. Do they have schools????

I have now started my Wreath making for the holidays. Like I don't have enough to do.

i enjoy sewing. only times i dont like it is when...
my machine is being stubborn
i run out of a certain color thread
i hafta re-thread the bobbin
tryin to meet deadlines (yep procrastination is a killer! lol)
stayin up all night trying to meet a deadline lol
mental blocks
when something doesnt come out right and i hafta re-do it
what else?

other than that .. i dont mind
wandering around fabric/craft stores (gonna be on a first name basis w/ wally world fabric dept soon :p),
creating designs and presenting them :p,
theres plenty to like :D

side question : how much would you charge for an ENTIRE kids' jingle dress outfit, all applique?

take the cost of all your supplies and times it by 2.5 or 3 and you'll come up with probably a resonable figure.

Pards;
sorry I havn't posted in so long I have been sewing some stuff for a pard, he is getting into reenacting and he is buying stuff off me to get my sutler started. I made him a housewife ( sewing kit) and am making a haversack for him, a haversack is a bag made of canvas made to hold personall accouterments such as a plate, eating utensils, hardtack ect. I also just finished my own housewife , I like it and it is made by my own design. enjoy all your holidays .

Hi Pard! :p
My jaw dropped when you said you made a housewife, but after the explaination - I get it!

I haven't finished much lately, been on the road way too much. And I have to admit: I'm TOO LAZY TO LAZYSTITCH lately.:(

Hi ya'll. I can't say I'm a sew-a-holic, because I don't really know how to sew! I'm trying to learn though. I think I'm more of an idea person - I like to buy material and have lots of great ideas but I don't know how to make it all work yet! I'm trying though. I'm about to take a crash course in making Osage women's dance shirts cause I wanna new one for my outfit! Here's hoping it doesn't turn out to be a disaster! :p

Awh, a thread just for me.... Hi, I'm Bettles; ok that's my maiden name, and I'm a bit addicted to sewing. When I was little; ok, probably 2-12 yrs. old, I'd love to hang out in my grandma B's large basement for hours at a time. No, not to do anything sinister; but to check out all her goodies in her sewing room. Twelve was about the age I started collecting my own stuff and really sewing larger projects and making my own regalia. Lucky for me; I married a man that allows me the freedom to have my stuff(and I mean it could fill half a tractor trailor) and doesn't complain. I don't think I could choose between fabric and my husband; it wouldn't be fair! Kidding aside; I'm glad my kids are getting older now, when they were little they'd love to run over what I was cutting up(apt. living you know), and I'd try not to get angry with them, but I'd give them the evil eye. They now will leave me alone when I'm in my zone; "sewing like a mad woman." The whole family knows when I've gone there; they only ask if I'm going to cook dinner for them. I was smart enough to teach my oldest how to cook at a early age; so now he's a great help to me, when I'm in my "zone." The last thing I want to share with all you seamtresses; and I don't want to offend anybody so forgive me, if I do. I have a name for how I get when I'm at the fabric store, "fabrigasm!" Yes, I said it; please keep it to yourselves, if you must adopt the word, go ahead; if you must spread it around, share amungst yourselves. I hope my sad, and troubled secret life and feelings about fabric and sewing will stay within the windows of this thread. I'm giving good rep. to the person who started this; it's been a load off my mind sharing my story, Masee' (thankyou, in Lower-Koyukon Athabascan)

OK; Listen to this, I'm a little ashamed, I broke-in someone else's new machine. I was invited by another dancer to her house to show her how to sew ribbon dresses for her daughters... I didn't mean to take over her machine; but I just couldn't help myself. She had a brand-new shiny machine just sitting there helplessly waiting to be touched. First I whipped together the dress she had cut out from a pattern, she watched of course. Then, since she had not cut the second out yet; I showed her how to cut it out(not using the pattern) just using her girl's measurements. It took about 5 minutes to cut out the dress and about 15 minutes to sew it together. The other dress took so much longer. I left her there to finish up some leggings and belts; guess what she left me a message early this morning with 4 different numbers on how to reach her. I suppose I left her alone; without enough information about how to use her own machine, so I'm guilty of man-handling (ok fondling, call it what it is) someone else's sewing machine. I should be punished; boy I had such fun.....

OK, so now I feel bad; I talked to this gal again. She was having major machine malfunctions. I told her it sounded like the tension was all out of wack on her machine. She used her book to fix the problem, then she started sewing again. She placed all the pinned ribbon down on an item; and yes you know it, she sewed right through that as well as another item that had been on the table...

probably the only guy posting

Boozhoo niji,

OK I sew, dunnoif I love it or hate it yet, when the machine is going good, I guess I like it, when I get in a hurry and the machine breaks or something, I guess I hate it.

I recently got a new machine, a Singer Schoolastic, its a model they use in home ec classes across the nation, its all direct drive, no belts to wear out. It is also tought enough to sew through leather, thats what sold me on it.

It has all kinds of features, I dont know if I will ever know all of them. Rightnow I do mostly repairs on my dance outfit, trying to concentrate on making a roach,

Derek

Hello Bettles! Welcome!

Could you tell me how much extra do you allow past the actual measurements on a dress? That's what I always struggle with, either making them too small or too big. I never use a pattern, but probably should.

Anyway, I need some MOTIVATION to get started on these new mocs. I had two weeks to get them done, which has dwindled to ONE week and I'm still dinking around!! What is wrong with me!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
