Don Moccasin (dmoccasin) and I just finished a couple of beaded crown & hairtie sets for this summer's Grand Ronde Veterans' Royalty. Check it out - he beaded the blue border crown and I did the red one.

Very nice work! I especially like the use of the campaign ribbons in the wheel. I take it this is the organizations logo? I was going to ask if you used different size beads but happened to see you didi in the comments attached to the last pic in the list.

Yes, the veterans' committee gave us a thread-embroidered patch with the logo that is on the front of the crown. The shape, size, and the design on the sides and on the hairties was up to us. Thanks powwowbum!

I haven't found a good/reliable source for the lifter feathers yet. I pick up all I can whenever I stumble across them. As for the blue eared...well, I bought those from a vendor at Tipton a few years ago that had a limited supply of them and found a guy out in your neck of the woods that sells them. He is rather expensive though. I been trying to get my sis to raise them for me since she lives out on a farm but she is the 'Dr Doolittle' type and couldn't pluck the feathers with the bird alive for fear of hurting it muchless killing it and then plucking it. Dang with that list of project you are starting to sound like me...LOL! Soooo Blackbear has you hard at work too huh? I am finishing up a blonde roach for her hubby and a macaw fan for her little girl right now myself. I gotta get some porky quill though before I can finish the fan. I am wanting to do quillwrapping on it like on those scalp feather, I just don't have the right colors dyed up in quills currently to do what I want. I got to check out wyat's clip and fold work last weekend and it is turning out keen and plus is he is wanting to swap me some for a roach so it sounds as if I will have another one to do very soon, cause I could always use a new set of ribbons. I figure I need to get him to do me a nice 15 row wide set, what do you think? If you get the chance I would definitely invest in a digital camera. Man I love mine and it has almost paid for itself in film and developing already. My new puter has all the camera media card ports right on the front too so all I got to do is pop the card out of the camera, slip it into the CPU and copy the pics over to the hard drive. Man it is soooo sweet! Well, folks keep the stuff coming I will post a pic of that blondie as soon as it is ready to go and the fan also (keep in mind though Blackbear wants to do the beadwork herself so it won't be beaded).

Ok in my defense here... Straight wanted to make her a belt LOL...I did'nt ask him to!! But man I bet you it is FANTASTIC!! We ordered some garters and hanks from him ... last year? And they ROCK.. there's a pic in the gallery under his name if you guys are interested. You guys really know how to keep a bear in suspense!!! Yeah the roach is for the hubby and the fan for the kiddo but I'm the one all excited about seeing them!! ROFLMAO!!!!!! Well I have been beading my daughter a new skirt for her iroquois clothing. I lucked out and that was all she had outgrown, but she outgrew it by like 4 inches!!! I gave birth to a weed! I also have to make her new moccasins and I have to do it before the 9th!!!! Not to mention one more bear necklace , possibly a barrette and two claws... not sure if it's possible...but I'm working hard and frantically!

blue ear feathers
SDinAZ:
Don Owen sells the blue earred pheasant feathers along with parrot and turkey feathers. He does not have a web site but you can contact him at: Don Owen Box 210 Tumacacori, AZ 85640 520-398-2226 I talked to him at National Powwow last year and he had a bunch of those those blue ears and I spent a long while looking them over but ended up not getting any. He also had some peacock tail feathers that were white with brown speckles, like bald eagle. Also cool. Instead, I walked away with a nice Himalayan pheasant tail. As for finished projects, I shouldn't comment. I've been SOOOO lazy lately. But I do have to finish a ribbon blouse tonight. |

That is the fella I was talking about in his neck of the woods. Last time I saw him he didn't have any of the lifter feathers but he had other peacock stuff.
Those Himalayan pheasant tails are nice. They are the same color and size as an adult redtail tail, they just do not have the black terminal band or blonde tip like a real hawk does. That is easy to artifake though, and then is completely legal. There is another type of pheasant too that has a tail that looks very close to certain breeds of hawk. Can't think of it's name right now though.

peacock feathers
PWB49,
Hey I know a great source for the lifters and pretty much any other feather from peacocks- check this out: White Fox Fur and Feather. The guy there (can't remember his name) is great to work with. He hooked me up with enough lifter feathers to do a couple full flat fans and they are HUGE! I think the biggest ones I got- kept 2 for a certain awesome roach someone is making me :Naughty in reserve and they are about 18" long. With the right trimming the only way to tell they aren't off the ole bird is to look at the vein thickness. It's quite a bit less thick than the real ones due to it's "lifting purpose" instead of sustaining flight-there I go on the national geographic thing again. Well just my two bits! See ya'll when I get back from sandville! Doug bum, expect package within 3-4 days!! Thanks |

Does that guy have a website? ( Or email me his phone # and address course you might not know it off the top of your head...LOL) I have a nice set of lifter I trimmed up and use as roach feathers from time to time. They look really close to first year baldy's and especially at distances of arms length or over! I was going to tease you about your whole Marlin Perkins impression going on over in the Tradish Forum...LMAO...just cause Mutual of Omaha had a NDN as it's logo don't mean you gotta get all naturalist on us (though that was good info and right on the money). I will drop you an email when the package gets here so you know it made it ok. They give your short timer butt a departure date yet?

But when I get home (and after a looooong shower) I'll get the catalog info off to ya! And yeah as for the Marlin Perkins crack (sad that I know who that is) I owe ya one! Now all I need to do is grow theose huge white sideburns!! And nothing solid yet, still looking like end of July- early August. Will keep you posted! |

I'm sure your kidding about the 15 ribbons although that would be one heck of a roach to swap for. It took me like 8 months just to finish a 7 ribbon set and that's just the ribbons it's not even on wool yet! That's one project I'd love to give the F word to..., you know finished.

nice work Bum!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm just finishing up a set of goat anklets. Figured while I'm waiting on the rest of my stuff I just ordered to arrive, I should be working on something. But I really don't count it as a real project, it didn't take enough time and now I'm back to waiting again. I'm ready to stake out the UPS drivers house!!! Where are those beads, that blonde horse hair and those feathers at????? ![]() Lets see making my belt, my spreader, my bustle, my new dance stick, my step-son's leggings, aprons, side tabs out of cloth, his bustle, my son's grass outfit, my step daughter's fancy shawl outfit. Probally should make a little tradish outfit for the baby too. I told the kids I'd make there first set, they have to help. After that........They have to do it themselves, but I'll help, If it's needed. OMG!!!! ![]() ![]() I love it:D
