thanks for the advise
Thanks but as I said my grandfather who roach me passed. Years ago so the only tie I have to our traditions was him. I am smart enough to know if people are making things up. Not asking for specifics just general idea. In any case do you know of an "elder" that is willing to share? I don't mainly b/c I am not full blood. Everyone I know gives me what the "Boy Scouts" have told them, not sure if their facts are 100%.

You should not be speaking to some random elder, you should be taking to an elder of your people. Why put the effort into roaching a child when you probably are doing everything else wrong anyway? |
O.k. you got me there, battle of the wits? I follow you but just looking for help. Pembroke so you know and closer to Cherokee in N.C. than "my people". But let me ask you this why is it so hard for somone not full blood to find answers from "my people"
This is what happens when you depend on boy scout pow wows for info....the more I read these forums the less I think I know about grass dance. Can anyone be of help....just trying to do it right. |

If a kid is old enough to understand that, you're in the right age area. It's sort of like asking when a young pilot is old enough to solo. Answer? When they can fly the plane. |

No I got the point I need to talk with the ones who roached me or some who is the same tribe because it is a tribe specific thing and no one likes to talk about what "their tribe" dose. This is the problem I running into. I asked when, I got an answer, when he is ready. Mission over. Thanks to Zeke. |

I wouldn't pretend to have the ability to determine, in a vacuum, anything related to the topic. All I have is my own experience and the ability to report that I was old enough because it has been somewhere around thirty years and I still remember. Lots of things have made me reconsider who I am, how I feel, my place in Native society, destiny, elitism, what matters, what doesn't, etc. But the MOMENT was pure and I remember it, vividly. Isn't that all anyone can ask for? |

True that, I have never forgot being at grandma little birds pow wow completly unaware that the whole pow wow knew that I had reached man hood, and that it was the day to mark it offical. It was great my mom and godfather behind me during the cerimony and my new grass dance regelia that 6 people worked on for me. Thats what I want for my son just the moment and how important it is. |

what i get from this person is a sincere desire to carry on traditions, and wants some guidance. now i can not offer anything on this topic for i know nothing of it. there really is no need to be so hateful and well just mean. poking and poking at him. just rude, and that is not what this site is about. :angry_smi:teeth: thank you zeke for offering some advice. |
