Question Civil War Shell Jacket

I just wanted to see what the general thoughts are for using a Civil War Shell Jacket for as part of Northern Traditional regalia. I have seen it before in a South East powwow when I was much younger. I was thinking I could use it to represent the military history of my family while giving tribute to the Cherokee Braves and other Natives who took part in the Civil War. Thoughts? Ideas? Is this something you have seen?

Thanks

Sure, go ahead. As long as you stay in Kentucky with your kind of people. You will look great.

There's a Color Guard in N.E.Oklahoma that are Tradish and all the members wear civil war era jackets or vests. I think they are around Broken Arrow and I think they look pretty cool. I thought about doing an outfit similar to that in honor of my Great Grandfather , who was a Sergent in the Indian Scouts. I don't really see anything wrong with it, as we always used what we captured.

History is viewed in many ways,
I have done some research on the 1st Cherokee Mounted Rifles and 2nd Cherokee Mounted Rifles as has our Heritage center. Neither Regiment were considered Regular Troops; anotherwords they were not outfitted with Standard issue were required to provide own rifle, horse and kit. Thus they would have not worn any type of uniform and mostly like were clothed in homespun cotton.
Southern Cherokee Forces were mustered in July thru Oct 1861 at Fort Gibson. However after being used to attack other "Indian Forces" most Full Bloods "deserted". Actually it was so bad that only one full Company out of 14 companies could be mustered after that one battle. Those that deserted enlisted with the 1st,2nd and 3rd Home Guards that mostly stayed in Kansas untill 1865.
Stand Watie and Other Southerners continued on as harrassment forces throughout 1862-1865 but never were organized into Regular troops and were not supported by Confederate Troops.
I traced two of my GGGGranpas thru there service both enlisted at Fort Gibson and both Deserted and enlisted with 2nd Home Guard I found both had applied for a Civil War Pension in 1890's neither one recieved it. An account of there battles was translated and shared at our Heritage Center...
My point to you is
Why?
