Duck and Dive

I am just wondering....When dancing to a Duck and Dive song, what move do you perform on the duck and then on the dive?

I personally on the duck bend my knees and bounce and look one way, then on dive bounce again and look the other way.

Thanks

The Duck and Dive was composed by a Nimiipuu after the war of 1877, it does commemorate the battle at Bighole, and yes there were real canons. The reason for the two downbeats are because that was the number of shots the soldiers got off before the warriors over took the canon and dismantled it. This particular part of the 1877 war was the worst... U.S. Soldiers came into the camp before daybreak and were instructed to shoot 3 times low into the lodges and move on... This surprise attack started everyone... but before long the men were organized and overtook the soldiers and pushed them back against the hill past the river and pinned them down. This was a sad day, the night before many were rejoicing and relaxing as the Nimiipuu people had believed they ad eluded the soldiers..., of the dead were large numbers of woman, children and elderly. This is what the Duck and dive commemorates... it is not something that should be taken lightly or changed... I know that the crow have one as well... but where is there story? Anthropologists have it wrong to say that the Nimiipuu have copied or have similar designs of the Crow people... I don't believe that... Nimiipuu has greatly influenced societies from the plains to the great basin to the coast; as they were the connection because of the distances they had traveled. To answer your question about dancing... dance with your heart, that should be the first and foremost lesson that anyone can do... it's not about money, it's not about fame... many get lost on this road... remember who your dancing for... the people, the elders, the children, because they are constantly watching and learning... and soon enough they will be asking you these questions... is it okay to create a new way... to put it mildly... we as indigenous people have lived in harmony for centuries... within 200 years and a new way of life... where has that put us... in the back seat fading away... be strong and remember the past... that is what defines us as people as it keeps us alive and respects those that proceed us... that had fought tooth and nail and paid the ultimate price so we today can say I am Native and I am of this land.... thats all for now

Thanks for your story there its all good & thorough, that makes the story more viable. That is why we people are supposed to stand during the duck & dive and deserves to be shown greater respect at all powwows.
