steps

Hello all,
I got the basic step thing down, lot more to learn of course and because -as you all may know now, I don`t have anyone to ask and videos I find are mostly blurry and too fast lol- I come here.
Besides spins and the mentioned basic step, there`s steps that are done with one foot while the weight is on the other foot.
My question is, do you actually have to jump with that foot or is ot more like a hopping while the balls of the foot stay on the ground?

sophisticated,

Most good-to-excellent fancy shawl dancers can jump, hop and "skip to my Lou" naturally and ambidextrously without even thinking about it!

Soph,

My point is there are no hard rules to fancy shawl dance footwork.

Perhaps a better answer would be "Yes. All of the above."

Obviously you did not understand my question, it was not a yes or no question, and I do know that there are no strict rules for that.
My question was not what is done but how a certain part of it is done.

Practice doing the steps in front of the mirror. Experiment with different ways of doing the step you're talking about. not all moves work the same for all dancers. i know of alot of dancers that try out moves in front of a mirror.

Thank you I am trying that. I hope I`m getting there slowly but surely, it has to get to that point where itīs automatic I guess, but my legs are getting used to the training now. After that I can probably take on the steps.
Thank you!

I think "yes" to all of the above is a good answer! it kind of depends on what "step" or "move" your trying to do. I know i'm going 2 catch flack 4 saying this.. but some steps look better (and are easier to do) when you land and jump... as opposed to bouncing on the balls of your feet. and some look better when you stay up on the balls of your feet. which ever way helps you keep your balance and makes you look more graceful...

Practice in front of a mirror and see how you like... practice practice practice :D

Thank you ballin, I agree the bouncing sometimes looks a bit "hectic" when the drum speeds up.
Thank you all!

To whoever marked my comment as rude, I wonder who that was *cough cough* You want some cheese with the whine? LOL Get over it, instead of being constructive youre filling up threads with "funny" remarks. That`s just as bad as those who refuse to help because they think dance steps are some secret they can only disclose to a few chosen ones. I wonder what some people are doing on this forum. Go outside and talk to people.

I'm locking this thread, it's over two years old and it sounds like the OP is a little late to the party.
