Looking for a Northern Traditional beaded regalia

I am a Northern Traditional dancer (women's) and I am looking for a beaded cape, leggings, moccasins, headband, barrett, hair ties, and belt to be made for next years powwow season. If anyone could help me out I'd appreciate it.

I'm going to ask the mods for this forum to move this thread over to the women's dance section. You might get more traffic there.

Thanks to both of you. Blacktail I don't wear regalias that have been worn by other dancers, not because I think I am too good or anything its just a spiritual thing. I believe you give a piece of your spirit every time you dance and some of it goes into the regalia. I feel only family members should share regalias for that reason.

Sunktaki thank you, and I actually have already called there lol and they were talking $10,000+ and that's a bit out of my price range I was hoping for $3,000-$5,000 range. Don't get me wrong I know its hard work and time consuming but $10,000 is a bit much. But thanks again

Thats the price you have to pay for a fully beaded set with a dress...if you gonna have a good beadworker and dressmaker, you're lucky if you find someone that do the entire regalia for 5.000...hope I don't make you disapointed, by telling the truth. As you stated it is time consuming, and when you break the cost down after taken all the material away, it is not much per hr.

Ya that's true, it is kind of disappointing lol but I appreciate honesty. I am hoping at least to just get a beaded cape, moccasins, and leggings I can always bead the barret and hair ties myself. But I got a whole year so I am hoping for the best.

Not trying to bust your chops, but if you feel it is not your thing to wear a dress someone outside your family wore, then how is that different from having a stranger commissioned to make you a new dress? Would the "spirit" of the person making the dress not be as much a part of the dress than what you put into it dancing?

I'm just curious how you would reconcile this.

Have you considered that maybe you might want to look into learning how to make your own? Three to five grand buys you a lot of beading lessons, beads, skins and accessories.

I've made two fully beaded yoke dresses plus leggings and mocs, so I know what is involved. You might get lucky and find someone willing to make a yoke, leggings and mocs for $5k but it might mean larger beads and designs that are not very complicated. Another option could be a partly beaded dress.

If you were to reconsider and get a slightly used outfit, you will have an easier time hitting your $5k amount. In many traditions, a used outfit can be "cleansed" to remove any "spiritual" residue from a previous owner.
