Art and Tradition Collaboration Needed

I am an art graduate student at Washington University in St. Louis and I am looking for the native community in my area.
I am conducting an art/research project that aims at reviving native traditions related on the connection/harmony between human inhabitants and nature, more specifically the use and preservation of cattail plants in this region. I will work with school age children and the local Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center.
Cooperation and advise from the native authority would be essential for the development of this project.
I will welcome any suggestions and information on this subject.
Please let me know where local native associations are around St. Louis, Missouri.
Thank you so, so much,
Nicole P.
