wouldn't it have been funny if someone was in their room and didn't know this "event" was going on, they smelled smoke, pulled the fire alarm and set off the sprinkler system?

That said, treading carefully, this bothers me. I've taken a few days to think, and I am still not entirely certain why, but I have a guess.

Do I believe this to be inherently harmful? Is this guy praying to MY God? Will there be thunder, lightning, a plague of locusts, etc? Should anyone there feel spiritually more safe or blessed due to these actions?

No.

So, what's the rub?

I think its the obvious showmanship of the piece.

Anyone -- and I mean, anyone -- can use the right tools (because it's the tools and faith, not the person), hit the four directions, say a prayer, and be done. It's blessed. Nobody even knows, get the Hell out of there, deed is handled, unobtrusively.

In sum, the big pile of Mountain Man crap in the middle of the room isn't necessary, unless you're putting on a show for the assembled masses.

Which means, in this case, it wouldn't matter (see numerical statements, above) who is doing this or why: that's what you're doing.

Me? "Homey don't play for the masses."

And, so, I find this bothersome: it smacks of KiowaKat and her ilk.
I don't like to judge things taken out of context but it is hard to put this in a context in which it wouldn't invoke judgement. It gave me this uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach as I watched it. Not because of his skin color or tribal affiliation but because it was so out of context. What is the motivation? I must say it seems to be for the money because if he was asked to do a blessing an authentic blessing would just be done - not in front of a camera or as a performance. It just was not authentic and made me queezy.

I would have to ask him about that belt if I were ever to see that in person. It would be one of those questions that just popped out of my mouth. LOL! "Hey man-did you get that belt as a war trophy from an Iriquois?"

Ok I just was taught some teachings about the origens of the belt in question. In a thread called "can a dog heal wounds by liking them" or something close to that rite hear on powwow.coms. I was taught that a Senica was captured by the Cherokees and burned at the steak. He did not die, and his life was saved by wolves who lickeded his feets and heeled him.
So, this Senica had his belt taken from him as a war trophy by the Cherokees and then they burned him (they took it off him because it was too prity to burn). So this Shaman that Disney employs to keep all the bad juju from all the bad hearted people that go to Disney world, well; he has that belt to this day.
I feel blessed to have been shown the origens of this belt and all the tradishons that have been passed down.
