Dead can Dance!

So I was researching my History term paper, when I got the idea to see what the collage database had on my tribe. After running a search I came across this paragraph (it is the only paragraph on my tribe in the entire Database)

Quote:
"Pedee Indians

The Pedee Indians, a small Siouan tribe, lived on the river that bears their name in northeastern South Carolina during the eighteenth century. In 1712 they provided warriors for John Barnwell's army in the Tuscarora War. For several years prior to 1739 they lived with the Catawbas, but in 1744 some of them joined Natchez warriors in murdering seven Catawbas and fled to the settlements for protection. In 1751 Governor James Glen designated the Pedees "settlement
Indians." The following year, however, the Catawbas invited the Pedee to return to that tribe and some of them removed from the settlements. Frequently attacked by Iroquois Indians, the Pedees were extinct by 1808."
- "Handbook of the American Frontier, Four Centuries of Indian-White Relationships, vol. 1: The Southeastern Woodlands" by Joseph Norman Heard

I wish someone had told us we were dead.
Even better, the year this book was published (1987) the Pee Dee hosted a Pow Wow! I guess the metal band was right, the Dead can Dance!

I know a few Pee Dee that always say complain about being invisible.

Dead Can Dance? I saw them live last autumn!

Interesting. My sister used to live in Maryland. I wonder if she was one of the ones you know.

Hmm... where in MD was she? I've probably either met her, or know someone who has.

Why is it that in the native community, we are all somehow connected. Someone always knows someone, who knows someone, who knows someone, who's a cousin of someone, who's grandma knows someone who lived near someone.
