To correct a common Misconception about the Cherokee Task Force and its Goals

The taskforce does not have Legal powers to strip away any kind of State Recognition.

Actually the Taskforce uses education for the Various State Governments that are in the process of considering various Resolutions to grant State Recognition to suspected Cherokee Bands.

In the State of Tennessee Indian commission on the final day they were in session granted Recognition to 6 Groups.
Through a successful campaign the state later recinded there Recognition.

In the State of Arkansas the Lost Cherokee Tribe successfully convinced the State Public Schools to register kids for Native American educational grants with a 5% "administration" fee to the LCN

In the State of Kentucky two resolutions are winding there way through the State Legislature which would grant State Recognition to 3 Cherokee Groups and yes to our History/Student's Tribe the Southern Cherokee of Kentucky

The days of Road side stands selling trinkets for a few bucks has gone
NO we are talking thousands and thousands of Dollars that are being funneled to these groups. Each time the are successful it means less dollars to Other tribes for we all use the Same Title IV money.
This has always been deemed a Cherokee Problem and yes we even laughed it off as a bunch of Wannabes running around with there buckskins at powwows

No sir those days are gone also

Its big business now days
Casinos bring in Millions of Dollars imagine one of these groups successfully convincing a Cash Strapped State what they could do to help them with a Casino!!!

This brings up Zeke's contention of culture vs quantum.

From what I understand. These watered down, complexion-challenged new breed of Cherokees get this state funded monies if state recognized. Now they can't petition for a casino because, as I've seen, only Federal Recognized have casinos.

Do you think we'll be seeing blonde haired, blued-eyed Indians putting up casinos one day?

What will their culture be?

Will someone go teach them for the dollars, or will all their fringed leather coon-skinned caps be in the history books?

Post your thoughts on this. No blasting Zeke...HE IS NOT ECBN!!!

C'mon, keely. Let's debate. Just kidding!

I have better stories than that, 'John Doe' has harbored known child molestors while claiming federal reservation.... I have gotten complaints from people that females were required to go nude from the waist up, and a former cop who caught 'John Doe' with a young girl, the girl was nude, and Jerry was fumbling with his pants when caught...

No, 'John Doe' is not what he claims to be, his genealogy has been done, he claimed his grandfather, 'Jane Doe' was the "last chief of the URB" and had claimed him to be full blood Shawnee, 'Jane Doe' was such a easy research trace. 'John Doe' claimed the 'Doe' name was Shawnee, but his family was traced to Baden Germany where they got on the boat to come to America...

It's not a spelling thing... it's a reading thing... Keely said debate... knowing you, you thought she meant de-date...

You and soop both need to up the dark level on your shades.. we can see you staring again...lol

Josiah, are the Cherokee any closer to trademarking their name? The Tlingit have been quite successful using Intellectual Property law to stop a number of folks from using their IP property. The arguments are based upon a traditional knowledge of ownership and that of IP law. It's pretty neat to see it working.

I found this article to be very interesting, you'll have to request it through a library, but it speaks about the way Tlingit have undertaking to combine laws of the Americand and Canadian IP and traditional ownership.

Money Always Talks

Kentucky has given recognition to groups that are not even in the state of Kentucky, Georgia is another state that gives recognition to about anyone who applies.

There are a couple of guys from Indiana who made up a "honor ride" across the eastern states, this happened about ten years ago, they claimed to be raising funds for a Indian holiday... they raised over 100k but no one knows where they money went. The money was never accounted for... the ride was two white guys wearing fringed clothing, one guy put black paint across his eyes and looked like a raccoon....

There are people out there who honestly, with all their hearts believe they are Indian. Family stories mostly, some make up stuff and become pretendian over night, some do it for interest in the culture, and some do it to feel "special" and then there are those who are out to rip off people...

These people who rip off others wind up getting away with it, and the real Indian people are left to be blamed

Most state recognition groups are nothing more than jokes.

I know that alot of things can happen with the Greased Palm
Your right though Trust Land stops the State Recognized
But who is to say what will happen is fmoney is spread in the right places>>>
