Film about Navajo boxing to premiere in Nashville
Thursday, April 29, 2004

"Black Cloud", an independent movie about a Navajo boxer, will have its Southern premiere in Nashville, Tennessee, this week.

Actor Rick "Ricky" Schroder approached several tribes to finance the film. He said he was rejected a number of times before finding the $1 million he needed.

The title character of Black Cloud is played by Oglala actor Eddie Spears. Activist/actor Russell Means and country star Tim McGraw also have roles.

This movie has already gotten bad reviews, and those were likely from non-Indian reviewers. So I'm skeptical. It's another film about Indians told from a non-Indian perspective. I'm not expecting this film to be a good one.
Remember a few years ago when a piece of crap called "Navajo Blues" came out? Irene Bedard has definately had better days. That's what I'm expecting from this movie. The director's on "NYPD Blue." Quit while you're ahead.

In movie about Native boxer, 'the Indians win'
Tuesday, May 4, 2004

Amateur boxers on the Navajo Nation are praising an independent movie that was partly filmed on the reservation.

"In some movies, the Indians lose," amateur boxer Lowell Bahe told The Gallup Independent. "In this movie, the Indians win."

Bahe trains at Damon's Boxing Club in Chinle, Arizona. Some scenes for the movie "Black Cloud" were filmed there.

Actor Rick "Ricky" Schroder financed the movie using tribal funds, although he won't name who helped him. He is screening it around the country.
