Georgia on my mind
Yellow Horse Man
From: "Yellow Horse Man" To: Subject: Georgia park legislation Date: Mon, 6 Mar 2006 18:12:56 -0500 Meeting with Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and The Georgia Council on American Indian Concerns It will be on the agenda to discuss the Policies proposed by DNR to prohibit all Native American programs in the State Park systems in Georgia. The agenda for the meeting as of yet has not been provided. We need the support as this is not just affecting Native people, but all people. It is not known when it will be discussed or who will be allowed to speak at this meeting. We need to show that there is an interest to all people regarding this issue of excluding certain groups while allowing others to hold similar events without censure. Why are the Native Americans the only group that is not allowed to use the State Parks in the same way? Although many Native American events are currently held on private land there is the issue of a precedent being set that could prohibit Native Americans from having ceremonies in the future. We need as many people as possible to show up to this meeting. It is important that the DNR be made aware that they can't make policies that are directed solely at one group. Please pass this on and let us know if you can join us at the DNR building between 11:30AM and 12:00 PM on March 15th in front of the DNR located in the Veteran's Memorial building, 2 Martin Luther King blvd exit 248 A off of 75/85 south. This building is directly across the street from the State Capitol building. It is important that we try to enter as a group. The Georgia Council on American Indian Concerns meeting is scheduled to start promptly at 1:00 PM. They may not admit people after 1:00PM. The DNR needs to see this is a matter that concerns all people and that they can't just make up policies targeting one group of people. Help us keep our parks for everyone! If you need more information you can reply to this e-mail or e-mail us at the address set up for this issue at allnationstogetherga@yahoo.com Call Lisa at 706-768-1584. Lisa will have this cell phone with her on March 15th in case you get lost. Lisa has attended two previous meetings with the DNR and can provide you with additional information regarding this subject.
