ONEIDA NATION HOMELANDS, N.Y. - The Oneida Indian Nation of New York has taken to the sky. On March 30, the Upstate New York tribe announced the formation of its latest business venture - a charter air service called Four Directions Air Inc.

"This is an opportunity for the Nation to be involved with a growing and vibrant industry," said Ray Halbritter, Nation Representative and CEO of the Nationís business enterprises. "Four Directions Air has the same commitment to high quality service as our other business endeavors. All one has to do is look at our Turning Stone Resort and Casino and the expansion that is under way there to know this will be a world class aviation business."

Four Directions Air will focus on the business traveler, offering charter service for corporate clients nationwide. The companyís flagship is a Dassault Falcon 50, a nine-passenger executive jet with a cruising range of 3,500 miles and a top speed of 550 mph. The jetís crew consists of a pilot, co-pilot and cabin attendant.

The new company will partner with Smith Air Inc., a veteran charter air service based in Georgia, to provide pilots as well as access to a variety of other aircraft to accommodate the business travel needs of corporate and individual travelers, including a Lear 35 jet for economical domestic travel.

The Oneida Nationís primary business venture is the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, N.Y., at which a $308-million expansion project, including a 98-suite lodge, a 19-story hotel and a 5,000-seat events center, is nearing completion. The resortís third professional caliber golf course, designed by Tom Fazio, is slated to open in July.
