Oneidas donate $1 million to tsunami relief benefit special

Oneidas donate $1 million to tsunami relief benefit special Indian Country Today January 14, 2005. All Rights Reserved Posted: January 14, 2005 by: Staff Reports / Indian Country Today

Oneida Nation Homelands, N.Y. -- The Oneida Indian Nation of New York announced Jan. 13 that it will donate $1 million to NBC Universal's benefit special to aid the relief efforts in countries devastated by the tsunami that struck the Indian Ocean. ''Tsunami Aid: A Concert of Hope'', hosted by Jay Leno, will be broadcast live at 8 p.m. Jan. 15 on all of NBC Universal's outlets.

''When a natural disaster unprecedented in recent history occurs, the entire family of man feels the pain and must be part of the healing process,'' said Ray Halbritter, Oneida Nation representative, who praised NBC Universal's Chairman and CEO Robert Wright and Jeff Zucker, president of NBC Universal Television Group, for bringing their resources to bear on behalf of the Red Cross International Response Fund. ''The Oneida people have been blessed by the Creator with a measure of prosperity and are proud to stand with so many others when asked to contribute to so worthy a cause.''
