Over looked Cherokee document
This document is about the cherokee after returning from England wishing to live near Roanoke River in Virginia's eastern areas and calling the saponi, nottoway, and tuscarora their brothers. It is dated 1734 from virginia court records. These cherokee if they lived in the roanoke river area or anywhere on the Eastern NC/Va areas would never had been a part of the Cherokee that was removed in the 1800's since this area does not pertain to the lands in the removal acts.

Actually the Cherokees that make up the Eastern Band were living in North Carolina and were not subject to the Removal act either. They stayed together as a Tribal unit and eventually were recognized in 1848 as a seperate Band. The area is called the Qualla Boundry. After 150 years the two tribes that were split met at each others council. Although seperated by miles and miles we are one and the same tribe we still speak the same language and share the same culture. And even more importantly we have common kinfolk!

Not whole tribes Yes I know cases where some people fell through the cracks But that dont make a whole tribe we are not talking thousands of people here And you keep quoting stuff from the 1700's The Baker roll that the Eastern Cherokee was done in 1924! You would think the "Lost" Cherokee would have come back to visit and check to see if anybody was still chasing them! Qouting me to further your argument is not flattery by the way its Rude! |

what ever happened to Unity. some of our Greatest native warriors in tribes all over america taught the importance of unity. Taught about accepting our brothers and sisters. I do not know of even one of our great men or women of the Native peoples that ever once stated to destroy our brothers and sisters unless it was a rival tribe....the only people who may have came close to this may of been some of the half european half native. If you think about it, chief Mcintosh...they called him white warrior....he was half white and half creek he signed over land illegally...basically agreeing to get the creek nation split up....the creek's came down on him like a storm and killed him.
The more people that wake up and revatlize their native ancestors...the stronger and more support we have in addressing native issues all over america. The only reason alot of issues are not getting the attention and response needed today like the Lakota people...is because there is not enough support and strength in numbers that is needed. Every time we attack another tribe in a means to destroy it and call it fake and fraud...the less people we have to support our native issues on a larger level. The more these smaller non federal groups get attacked by federal tribes...the more they are going to not want to help with the federal tribe's issues. I guarenttee you the government is loving us fighting each other, the more we tear each other down then the less the USA government has to help any of us. It is not good man. Seriously alot of the money and the Casino's is not really helping matters...the more money brought in and the more casinos brought in..the more the newer generations are losing focus on the issues at hand. With all the money alot of Federal tribes are getting..why is the Lakota people still one of the poorest people in america...why is the Lakota suffering so much while there is other Federal tribes driving fancy cars and living in million dollar houses. There is one tribe in California today and they are getting like 10,000-30,000 bucks every month for each member of their tribe. Why do so many tribes care more about unity only if it means something like gathering of nations? Why is tribes so concerned with hunting down and attempting to destroy any tribe not federal...when there is so many more issues that need attention? Destruction of the native populations is bad, unity of native populations is good. not all these groups being called fakes, frauds, new age junkies, etc is like that. alot of them groups is just people who is attempting to keep their proven heritage alive. There is fake, fraud, and new age groups out here in america but alot of tribes is being falsely labeled with them. Why is certain tribes and native people quicker to yell fraud and fake...before actually going to these people they are attacking and just saying...ok so your native show me your proof....and then sitting with them and addressing some issues..and work out some kind of middle ground so both is happy? what is the harm in that? Unity is not a bad thing. Last edited by HistoryStudent; 12-14-2011 at 08:05 PM.. |
